Why do we do always do this.. I was specifically giving my thoughts on how he played in that specific game. (probably should have put it in gameday I guess). We don't have to try to rationalize anytime our players have anything potentially critical. I wasn't critical at all, just giving my review of his performance. We are all aware of his injuries and time off. I wasn't giving a critique of his career arc or harkening back to RBL days or whatever. 1) one 90 minute game: yes that's what I was reviewing. I didn't make some broad claims about his career or his future/past as a professional player. 2) ok, he's had a layoff. Now he's back and playing CM in the PL. He gets the start and goes the full 90. This isn't a charity match, he's being judged, by me, on how he played that specific game. I was extremely positive of him but had a few concerns that I saw and voiced. He played well, but if I'm picking up on your post then we have to discount that part as well because it's not an accurate view of TA as a player since he's returning from injury?
He's still probably about a dozen trophies behind Kante. Maybe more? I actually think he could, or could have been, better. He has a bigger chip on his shoulder and has more of a killer instinct/mean stream than choir boy Kante. But Kante trumps him on a variety of abilities, most notably the available one.
He had one of the great DM seasons of all time the year he helped Leicester win the PL. Deserved the ballon d'or.
Unqualifiedly poor and that’s no knock on Tyler. https://www.transfermarkt.us/ngolo-kante/erfolge/spieler/225083
For the Americans here, if the first number is more than 13 you deduct 12 and add pm at the end. e.g. 13:15 becomes 1:15 pm. You're welcome!
Don't misinterpret niceness for weakness. Kante is an unbelievable force but hardly ever scores or assists. He's legitimately too nice and deferential to want to kill the opponent and/or let down his teammates Adams is much more brash in comparison
I'd imagine this has been mentioned before in this thread, but I just realized Iraola's time at NYCFC overlapped with Adams breaking through at RBNY. In Iraola's last season, Adams only made one MLS appearance so they never did share the field
To me, it looked like he was fully back to his old self in this game. He was really shaky in the Brighton game. As someone mentioned, it looked like his "feel for the game" was off. He was chasing and getting caught out of position regularly. Against Wolves, he was more connected and better organized with his teammates, but he wasn't really able to land on a lot of his defensive actions. Maybe he was a little hesitant or being more conservative. He was much better today, and it looked like Tyler Adams when he's at his best with the entire defense keying off of him dominating the midfield.
Wait a second... 4 days ago you said we had to discount any assessment of his performance because of injury and layoff and other excuses. But 4 days later he's able to be judged positively without those disclaimers? I'm half messing with you my man... but proves my point about how quick we are to give excuses on any criticism of our favorite players.
perhaps the news of his demise was greatly exaggerated? FOTMOB data on him ... won 9 of 17 ground duels won both aerial duels was fouled twice fouled others 5 times won 4 of 7 tackles 1 block 3 interceptions 7 recoveries nice day at the office for sure - 8.1 rating
People had reason to be worried at one point. Adams started exactly one game across all competitions at the club level in the 20 months following his season ending injury for Leeds in March 2023. He also had a few USMNT starts in that period as well. He has now started 4 consecutive Premier League games for Bournemouth in the past month, after appearing as a 2nd half sub in the two games prior. That's a pretty huge development.
Worth noting that Adams’ direct pressing lead to a goal scoring chance inside the area that he failed to convert, which then bounced back off him and to teammate who finished, but was ruled out by VAR due to being offside. He was decent today.
For completeness Adams also got a yellow card and had a shot blocked by an arm which resulted in a VAR check but no penalty (natural position).
For me it’s just about him staying healthy and he’ll be fine. He had to regain fitness, shake off the rust, get back to game speed, etc. But I’m not worried about his ability to play at this level, just that he can’t stay healthy.
