I find it a little disingenious that he didn't think the defenders were smart or at least not smarter than what he was used to playing against on the U-Whatever teams. Did he honestly think they wouldn't be any better than defenders 5 years younger?
well i would hope so since it's a PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE!! you know, as good as all this ADU stuff is, when you think about it, it's all a backhanded insult to MLS. when media types (read Kornheiser) expect Freddy to come in and dominate right away, they're basically saying the league is crap...
Here's another one, there are an infinite # today, but I got a shiver when I say the quote below in this article: Legendary ... ok ... sure ... I still have nightmares.
Gelnovatch is also legendary for taking over the best program in college soccer and making it an also-ran despite having Bruce Arena give him a leg-up in recruiting by making him the U18 national team coach. Takes legendary talent to not win at UVa.
How bout this line? "... Then he catches the ball on the back of his head, rolls it down on his neck, keeps it there, takes off his shirt and does push-ups..." I'd like to see Freddy try that in a game.
Re: Two Adu Articles :: Adu Surprised by ‘Smart Defenders’ :: Adu again unlikely to s It'll never happen cause Nowak won't let him do push ups. j/k 53
Very smart? Is he speaking of Agoos, Califf, Bo? If they were all smart, wouldn't they "always" be on his left foot, since Fred is supposedly a lefty? Fred's going to get off today; at least 4 goals and 5 assists, now that he knows he has to use guile and his supreme talent on MLS defenders. Why didn't Piotreer (sp?) tell Fred during one of his 20 trips to the sideline that those guys are smarter than they look on TV?
