Yes. Gregg did "fix" the culture by doing to it exactly what is done to a dog when he is "fixed."
That is he cut off the "culture's" ...........

There's irony in your continued bashing of Berhalter, especially since you're referring to the 2026 WC that will be in the US under Pochettino. The irony being that, for much of his first year, Poch called in the Euro guys that Mr Adam Tash loves the most and they failed hard (as they did under Berhalter in his last year). You feeling all confident now is the REAL irony, since the good results Poch has gotten of late have included (if not come on the backs of) plenty of the kinds of "MLS scrubs" that you always rail on. And plenty of them will likely be on the roster next summer, as well.

berhalter couldnt get anything out of MLS despite trying soooo hard ....poch has been able to. though we still have to see how the next 4 games go....it just shows how much berhalter sucked.

read the whole thread, i adjusted this in another post.

and even though poch can actually get something out of the mlsers, doesnt actually mean that there isnt talent in europe he isnt overlooking.

poch had to crash the team on purpose to reset the culture.....the european players are still the best in the pool....onyl difference is the team now has a competent coach.

    Who?

I'm trusting Poch's experience that in our sub $6 million xTransferCost pool, calling in Berhalter over Busio is like getting to Arbys and deciding "you know what, today, crinkle cut instead of curly..."

Maybe if Busio is key to Venezia getting back to Serie A he gets the call next spring, maybe he waits for 2030.

I can't believe we have a guy bagging a goal/211 minutes in the Argentinian Clausura that hasn't been called in yet...why even have an Argentinian coach...:ROFLMAO::D

    Case in point:

Why do you think Poch was so adamant that the team which dominated Uruguay last month was "The United States" not a B or C team? It's because like Herb Brooks, he understands that to win as underdogs you need the right players, not necessarily the best players.

ok he sent all the good players home from gold cup once pulisic pulled out....because it wasnt actually about results...but sending a message to the team....he knew that it would hurt the competitiveness and that indeed was "crashing the team" in my eyes

    What are you talking about?

Dest and Balogun were hurt but literally came to camp and tried to play; Jedi was hurt so he never arrived. We knew Pulisic wasn't coming way back when the roster was announced, but he had them fly across the world and then sent them home?

I'm sure all the public reports of their injuries plus their clubs not having them for much of training camp all the way through missing regular season games was all part of a smokescreen.

You've also labelled players like Tyler Adams and Chris Richards as "not a good player."

It's once again VERY CLEAR you don't watch any of the games. Why are you here?

Remember, this is someone who thinks Borussia Dortmund deliberately threw away a Bundesliga title to preserve Gio Reyna's long-term transfer value.

Gregg did a solid job. Not a growth job..

As far as culture, he created a culture where a bunch of youngsters came in, enjoyed the experience, developed camaraderie and won games. Age-appropriate.

He just wasn't the right guy for the next phase.

    Indeed

It had a lot to do with turning the program around after the debacle of 2018 qualifying.
That infamous Ringer article outlines just how toxic the whole program had become. Berhalter's tenure had a lot to do with rebuilding the culture and creating an environment that players wanted to be a part of.

Gregg over the first two years of his tenure almost completely turned over the roster. Particularly after we exited COVID. We had the 2nd youngest roster at the World Cup. And in many windows the second half of his cycle, we had THE youngest roster in the World. When you use a lot of young players, it can lend itself to inconsistency. We had a lot of ups in that cycle, though. Trophies won. WC qualification and advancing out of the group. The Netherlands was a significantly better team than us, and it showed.

Gregg is a good coach. I mean, he just got the Chicago Fire to the playoffs. A place they hadn't been in quite some time.

Poch is a different level of coach. We're seeing over the course of the last year an evolution of his tactics and player selection that show another level. A guy who has evaluated our pool for the last year and has now devised tactics that give us a chance to succeed.

That utter demolition of Uruguay is NOT something we experienced under Berhalter. We don't go out there and score 5 goals against CONMEBOL teams. We don't score 5 goals against proud, WC winning nations. Actually, we'd never done neither under ANY previous coach. He outcoached Marcelo Bielsa.

greggg is a decent club level coach.....doubt he ever does much on the club level outside of MLS but i suppose it could happen....

i think a poch level coach couldve done what we are seeing now last cycle though....thats kinda the whole point of why i hated berhalter. hearing a guy like lous van gall callout how the usmnt never adjusted in the wc match is exactly what im talking about. picking ferreira over pepi for that roster was INSANE.

greegggg only suvived and gets the rep he gets from people like the ones in this forum bc their expectations of the team are so below where they should be. a guy like poch comes in and talks about winning the world cup with no irony. he is not exagerrating or joking. thats where im at too. that should be the goal.

an mls coach like gregggg has no chance of even making that his goal - bc he sucks.

literally any decent mls college or high school coach could get the usmnt to qualify for the WC imo....the bar has been way too low for way too long in this country in terms of what success is

I wouldn’t assume a smooth qualification process under Poch if it had to be done this cycle. I’ve pretty much seen one window in his tenure that was overly impressive, and it was only a friendly situation.

Please compare our lineup to the Dutch lineup and tell me how the Dutch aren’t favored.

I agree with you that GB’s decisions in Qatar hurt our chance against Holland. But it didn’t turn us from favorites to losers. It turned us from 25% chance to 15% chance.
