can someone shed some light on this particular issue for me; what is the deal with the tape/wrap on twellman's wrist/hand? did he have a past injury that he is still trying to protect? is it some superstition kinda thing? why the hell has it been there for the past year? just wondering.
I *believe* he injured his wrist at some time in his career and had a good game so he has taped it up every game as good luck. I know for sure that it's superstition I just don't know the exact history.
I read somewhere that if he doesn't tape his wrist, his hand falls off. Call that superstition if you want, but I call it common sense.
Actually, I suspect it's for psychological reasons; mind power. It probably gives him a feeling of having more power and better accuracy on his kicking of the ball.
O'Dubhghaill Rules! has the story right. Apparently some time ago he injured his wrist playing baseball and had to have it taped up, having since worn it out of habit/good luck, etc.
and the trend begins... Funny this should come up because yesterday my son mentioned that he's seen a lot of younger boys, in particular, wrapping that same wrist this spring!
Twellman injured his wrist playing for TSV 1860 [fracture/break??] and he's been wrapping it since - for superstitious reasons as well as for protection.
I heard he uses the tape to stick the soccer balls on the Taylor Tally. Might I suggest he uses some to tape DH's mouth shut!

Good interview in that link. But he really needs to get a sense of humor about him, otherwise people will think he graduated from the Imad Baba School of Interveiwing... Q -- "Taylor, do you have any funny incidents from when you were playing in Germany, like going into a restaurant and ordering a "Staubzaukerbuitelbefisteger" thinking you'll be getting a nice juicy steak, and then the waiter brings you a large piece of heavy industrial machinery?" TT - "No, that's never happened."
Yes it seems he does need a better sense of humor at times. I thought "Red" Foley asked a funny question.
