I'm a bit concerned about how this injury occurred. Dunseth's hit from behind as clearly card-able yet no card was given. The same is true of the takedown from behind on Kamler earlier in the season that kept Kamler out for a bunch of games.

TnT has been getting wacked all season. I know that being a Forward is almost as dangerous as being a miner but there are rules of the game aimed at protecting players and the damn Refs should inforce them.

Sound like our guy isn't too badly hurt but the Crew should be without Dunseth for game three. We have lost Llamosa, Kante and Heaps for successive matches--Hey Refs--how about letting some of the other teams offenders getting to sit out a game!

    Arrgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You knew it was going to happen sooner or later, the way Twellman gets hacked. I just hope it's nothing major. Reportedly APC will start up top, in his place. Twellman's MRI is scheduled for this morning.

I said in another thread, that I'm amazed that refs allow tackles from behind when a player is holding up the ball with his back to the goal, that they never would if he were facing goal. Why does that make sense? Shielding the ball is part of the game, why does it become a green light to take out someone's legs?

Yet the refs will protect defenders. A touch foul by a forward vs a defender inside the 18 will draw the whistle. Go figure

    Dumbseth

Make sure to spread the word about why TNT is out. I hope everyone really lets Dumbshit have it royally tommorrow night. As for the league not protecting their stars, they can't do much of anything right. If the Revs go down tommorow I hope someone takes out Cunningham or McBride for the MLS cup. If it isn't the Revs, I'm rooting for LA

Also Dunseth did get a yellow around the 80th minute, so he would have been gone had he been carded for the foul that took out Taylor.

There are two versions of about the same thread in the referee forum and the major league soccer forum. The crux of the matter is someone high up in the USSF refereeing circles wrote a paper complaining about how the MLS instructs the referees to call things against the laws of the game. Some of the examples were calling offsides differently in blowouts and not adding too much extra time to avoid controversial endings. The part that stuck out to me was the fact that the MLS frowns on second yellows and seems to discard "excessive cautions" which will ultimately lead to too many suspensions.

In the major league soccer thread, people are skeptical about the whole thing, but on the referee thread they seem familiar with both the author and the website that it was placed on and seem to be pretty sure that it's real. It's not that long or technical, and it definitely pertains to threads such as this.

The author of the paper might as well be called "The Dean of US Soccer Officials". Link to his paper below. It has been verified that Dr. Evans indeed did write this paper.

Reading this may make some of you rethink how pathetic MLS referees are...they may be doing as they are told (or pressured) to do!

What was the purpose of his writing this letter? Has it been submitted to some referee oversight comittee? Has it been given to the MLS? If so, is any type of response expected?

Hard for me to say exactly why he wrote the letter. The thought over in the referee forum is that he is just trying to protect the game. For some reason, MLS referees are being pressured into calling matches in ways that are counter to the Laws of the Game. NASL tried this way back when and look what happened there.

Referees who do not conform to MLS wishes of things like shortening the true stoppage time to end halfs earlier or not give 2nd yellow for things like dissent seem to have a hard time getting assignments.

Doesn't it seem somewhat odd to people that our referee representative to the World Cup, Mr. Hall, got excellent reviews of his officiating, but he only gets a handful of MLS assignments???? Kinda makes you stop and say "hmmmm....."

Apparently the letter started being distributed to select higher level referees and has filtered down from there.

    He's out for tomorrow.

Grade 1/2 MCL sprain. If the Revs win or tie (knock on wood 3 times), he MAY be able to play in the finals.

I personally am praying for a monsoon of biblical proportions. A 0-0 tie with the ball never leaving the center circle will be acceptable to me. I can't beleive I am writing this but WE ARE ONLY ONE TIE AWAY FROM THE MLS FINALS !

PS Don't look for Chacon to start. My guess is he only plays if we are down a goal.

God, I hope that Fuller doesn't start. He would be considered slow in my regular weekly pick-up game.I just can't imagine that he will be in MLS at this time next year.

Fuller went in for Twellman the other night, not Chacon. Whatever happens, pickings are slim. The three choices are Chacon, Griffiths, or Fuller, unless you want to stick Rooney out there and go with a 4-5-1. How about starting Griffiths wide left and sticking Kamler in at forward?

Onr thing that will make the substitutions interesting is the mini-game. Say Columbus goes ahead by a goal in the second half. Do they make a defensive sub, taking out McBride or Cunningham? If they do, whoever goes out does not participate in the mini game (which starts out 0-0) or the penalty kicks that could ensue. Nicol will have similar concerns.

    Does Fuller have some photos?

He looks like he is running in sand. In a sandbox.

We were laughing and crying at his ineffectiveness in place of Twellman, like it became 9v11.

What am I missing? Hasn't Sandbox Boy had his chances with no results?

Play Chacon, Griffiths, John Wilson (1 goal), Sommer, ...

if, in fact, you believe nicol when he says "we're going for the win". there's no way you can have wolde and the white wolde together up front at the same time. you've got to play chacon up there. imo you've got to have the standard "possession guy" and the "squirrel-ly guy" combo.....not two slow possession guys. fuller can't really defend (though at least he tries. more than you can say for chacon i suppose).

the only other possibility i see is griffiths up there. he may be able to move the ball quickly down the flank from midfield....but he couldn't complete a pass on ladies night at a sexaholics anonymous mixer (sorry, bad line). really though, i can't remember 1 single decent crossing pass he's had since he's been here. maybe even a ground pass for that matter. but, who knows, maybe he can cause the defenders some fits doin a tasmanian devil thing up there and get lucky enough to find good service and the back the net. i've got to think even that gives us a bit more hope than fuller's play will.

i still like chacon in there though. if people are looking to draw further pats/revs parallels....you've got to have the wiley veteran come off the bench against the black and gold to finish off what the kid started. the kid will be back for the final game against mls' "greatest show on surf"....and we all know the end to this story, right? right? (he says with increasingly decreasing confidence)

I'd rather see Chacon than Fuller ... I'd like to think that over 90 minutes, Chacon has at least one moment of brilliance left in him that could make a difference in the game ... I don't think Fuller does. But whatever SN decides is fine with me, I'm not going to second guess him at this point.

Call me crazy ... how about Hernandez up front as a hodling forward ..anything but Fuller ... please.

I think Sandman's got the line up:

    4-5-1

    Brown

    Pierce...Kante...Llamosa...Franchino

    Cloutier...Cullen...Hernandez...Kamler...Ralston

    Harris

We'll see Chacon for Cloutier if we are down.
