This is the second year of the DP rule and so far no one really knows if the Revs are going to use their DP spot on anyone. I like many other Revs fans here feel as if the club could do more to improve itself both on and off the field. For one, this is a soccer hot-bed and to not have a major star, i.e. Luis Figo, Ronaldo, Shevchenko, Ronaldinho, Del Piero whoever is a major let down. Also it was about a year or so ago we heard the Revs seriously considering building their own stadium in Sommerville or somewhere in the Boston area and not even a whisper or hint on where things stand today.
I give the Krafts all the credit in the world in how they built the Patriots, Gillette Stadium, Patriots Place, etc. They are very smart people when it comes to the NFL and business. However when it comes to the Revs, it just seems like they could do a lot more for the club to make improvements, like they do with the Pats but choose not to do so. I'm sure they care about the soccer team, but to the average Revs fan out there it gives the impression that the club is an afterthought, only there to rake in beer sales and concessions.
As of today the club has lost Andy Dorman, Pat Noonan, and now possibly Taylor Twellman. I tend to doubt that Twellman will be sold but if he is, where are these replacements going to come from? Its my contention that the club needs to go out and buy a big time star, be it the guys I listed above or someone else. IMO the Revs could be the Pats of the MLS if the financial commitment was made.
I used to be a season ticket holder for a couple of years, but now I only go to a few games a year. I would be signing up for some type of ticket package this year or year after if I heard the club got a stadium deal done or made a major signing. But with the upcoming season upon us, with two major players gone, and no news on a potential new stadium or DP's, why should I commit my money on a season ticket package when the club isn't doing the same in return? I love this club and think very highly of the Krafts, but more needs to be done to show the Revs belong in a very competitive Boston sports landscape.

This is my first time posting, but i've occasionally read bigsoccer posts since the 2006 season (when i found the link while looking for revs info on mlsnet.com).

Now if Twellman is truely disgruntled and hurting the team's chemistry next season would it make sense to try and trade him within mls? Do you think the revs could get fair market value for him now that it is known that he would like to leave mls? Some teams might not mind having him for a season and then seeing if they might be able to get an offer for him and then take the cash? Others might just jump at the chance of having him on there team?

If the revs could get an equal (but hopefully motivated) talent from within mls would this be an example of the Revs improving themselves? At the very least it would give them a known quanity in return for Twellman, instead of cash for that elusive foreign replacement.

I personally want to keep Twellman and add another piece to the puzzle so that we can be favorites to finally win MLS Cup this year. If we do nothing and keep Twellman, I would say that the odds of us getting back to MLS Cup are not great. Could we do it? Sure, but the problem still is the fact that the team is missing that top notch player to put us over the top. We've come close many times and will continue to come close, but in the end we're always going to come up short. IMO we add a Figo or Ronaldo (maybe wishing a little too hard) to complement the rest of the team and we'll have a very good chance at becoming champions.

I think its whiny and annoying that Twellman is pitching such a big fit about the Revs not trading him to North End. The Revs didn't hold a gun to his head and make him sign the contract he did. He assumed he wouldn't get any better offers and agreed to exclusivity with the Revs in return for a pay bump. It wouldn't be beneficial in the least to the club to say "Oh, never mind, we didn't know you would be offered so much money. Go right ahead."

I liked the post someone put in a previous thread that suggested that if Twellman didn't like the contract, he should find another agent and try not to make a similar mistake next time. He's stuck now because he made what he now believes to be the wrong decision.

I will say that if he was smart, he would shut his mouth, support his club and quit being such a public nancy. This will improve his image and increase the possibility of offers being put on the table when his contract DOES make him available for European trades, assuming he lasts that long as a successful player. Furthermore, if MLS continues to grow and expand in popularity, he might be able to find that kind of money closer to home down the line as long as he quits whining. Nobody likes or wants to sign a sore loser.

This all being said, I think I'm more annoyed that one of our best players is reacting this way, because it makes me less of a fan. He's like the T.O. of the Revs. I'll still be cheering for him in '08, but I would like him better if he was more of a stand-up guy about the whole thing.

I have a lot less of a problem with them not bringing in a "big star" like Figo or any well-known European. The issue isn't the $5 million (or even $1 million) man, but the guys who make $200,000-$250,000. Those are the kinds of players we could and should be bringing in.

I'm blue in the face about this, but last season we could have brought in two such players, and now it would seem we could bring in a third $200,000 player.

Wouldn't that set us up again in prime shape? A genuine #10, a left-sided mid and a striker, with a total salary of $6-700,000. We've got the room for those guys, but do we have the ability to get them?

The real problem is, the Krafts don't need to do anything.

Yeah, he doesn't even have to write his own US Soccer Hall of Fame induction speech. Rev Okie-Dokie will do it for him :D

I'm really excited that someone finally felt the need to start a thread about their fears for the 2008 edition of the Revs and how they feel about the Krafts management of the franchise. It should be a fun read. ;)

Well Doc, you can always start a thread about how excited you are based on what we know right now concerning the Revs team for 2008. Oh wait... forget it....I see the problem with my idea for you now.

Please note that those of us with an optimistic and patient approach to life and to the Rev behind closed doors happenings during the off season don't feel the need to do so and would rather just sit patiently and listen to the Doom and Gloom Chorus spew their tiresome litnay of meaningless drivel. :D

Just remember what I've often posted: constant negativity is bad for your immune system. :)

Enough is enough with this team. It makes me sick every day I see more news coming out of DC that they signed another quality South American player. Not a blockbuster name but nonetheless a skilled player that will improve the play of the team and put them in contention to be atop the league. They have consistently shown the desire to improve their product....and look how the fans respond there. They draw great crowds every week....their fans obviously appreciate the efforts. On top of that, they are at least looking for a solution in terms of a stadium and their fans know something is in the works. Compare that situation to what we have here w/ the Revs. We are losing on all fronts!!! DO SOMETHING NOW REVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sentiment in this thread might be old and tiresome, but it is nice to see some new (or infrequent) posters expressing their opinions. Welcome to BS.

IMO the revs will be better on the defensive end this year.....but I agree, there needs to be a return on the commitment shown by the fans to the team...the revs draw more then the bruins do, and before this year the celtics. yes the team has had great success, and IMO outplayed houston two years running and where hard luck losers both times, this alsp includes both LA games as well.

    *reading through the quotes*

Yknow, there's a reason Soccer Doc is on my ignore list. Any time I see the message "This message is blocked because the user is on your ignore list", I know what it's going to say. Something about "not knowing the facts", something else about "wait & see", perhaps a little "give them the benefit of the doubt." So I block it, because I don't need to read it over and over.

If there are other folks that feel that I (or any other poster) am similarly repetitive, they should be feel free to employ this handy Bigsoccer.com feature. After that they should consult a dictionary to learn to spell the words "Litany", "Their," and "Schtick".

because some may not feel that, just because you disagree with someone, you should silence them. If you're not willing to hear someone else's opinion, don't bring your own.

    quoted for irony.

Also, note the difference between "should" and "should feel free to".

Thanks, and welcome to my ignore list.
