Wait, this can't be true. Wasn't Jozy just at a press conference with Col Klink adamantly stating that lowly MLS was not an option!? He was pushing himself. No means no....right?
It's ok, he's not going to MLS. He's going to a super club! (But a club, none the less, that also happens to play in MLS.)
He wasn't wrong though, on that assessment. It's just that adult professional soccer is a tough career path, especially for some players who were youth stars.
Eh, Mix and his dad will ask for something at the last second and pull out....just like with Portland amd Columbus previously. I'll belive it when I see him show up at training. Mix is fun....but also looks to be very high maintenance.
Not just testing himself...making the 1860 management uncomfortable! ....so uncomfortable that the team who groomed him from youth, stood by him after two serious injuries, gave him chance after chance to be a starter, and he couldn't do it, is pissed because Bobby now has a bad attitude and has been demeaning and disrespectful to the coach and staff, that they have left him in soccer limbo....not playing and without a team. Rumor is because Bobby got a big head after hanging out with Col Klink! JK must be over the moon! Bobby has gotta be a guaranteed starter now creating all that discomfort. Definitely must put him "a little bit ahead" of all his MLS comp.
Sacha's problem is he got to much time actually playing in the CL. If he had been on the bench more, or better yet, with the reserves he would have been a shoe in.
Yup, but the bar here in the US with regards to soccer journalism is akin to MLS bench quality in 96. Average and no comp can elevate someone's status quickly.
Only people who understand the sport of soccer would think Jozy could help an MLS team. That's probably why it's a mystery to you. I'm not saying you're stupid. I mean, you have a blog! I'm saying you're stupid about soccer.
Its all the knocks to the head. He can see the future. Except concussion protocol. He still has no clue about that.
FWIW Mix/Mix's dad didn't pull out of the Portland deal. The Timbers agreed to a no-trade clause, but the league refused to accept that stipulation. Obvious the Timbers are fine with how it turned out (they ended up with Valeri after all, and may have gotten the "league DP" help with his transfer fee because of the Mix situation), but at the time Paulson/the Timbers were really pissed off about that.
I think a photo of Jozy and JK at that press conference with Jozy's "no means no" tweet underneath it would have been better, but this still works.
I'd immediately order a United Altidore shirt if that came to pass. But, United's not spending money like that until they're at Buzzard Point.
So Portland? Merritt Paulson did say his staff has his approval to sign a player for up to $5 million a year, more if he approves.
