    Twellman/Max-Moore analysis

    Funny thing.

In four seasons, Joe-Max has 100 points, in 6699 minutes 37g,26a....oh yeah, add a goal (2 pts) for the 2 playoff games in 97.

    Twellman.... hmmm

    1 season, 52 points. 23 goals, 6 assists. 2418 minutes played....

that is one season. Considering that he keeps those numbers for four years, which i highly doubt, multiply 52 by four. I get 208 points. But, in the next 3 seasons, he'll probably only get to double this number... so take it and multiply by 2

    I get 104.

Who is the better guy? I know that they play a totally different game... Twellman kinda knocks in the balls that comes to him, and Moore is much more rounded of a player, he defends, and he gets pretty much as many assists as goals. which is pretty amazing. But, who is really the bigger asset? Twellman, and his finishing, or Moore with his all-around good play??

Before I get flamed, I know that Twellman helps back and gets assists as well, but I feel that he is
not helping back and getting other people goals as much as moore did/will.

Discuss.... Pick apart, get into drunken brawls about it.... (jk)

I don't think any one player is better than the other, but both have the tools to contribute to the Revolution in 2003.

I'd offer that Moore's strengths lie in being more of a complete player:

*He has the years of experience...

*The resourcefulness and ability to play two positions (forward and midfield)...

    * He's patient. I.e., when being double-teamed he won't try to fight through everything, but he'll look for those opportunities to make the right play at the right time.

    * Hardworking, hardworking, hardworking...

Twellman's strengths lie in his impetuous/fearless play, his ability in the air, and his workrate both on offense and in mixing things up defensively. However, he's going to be a marked man this year, and he'll need to learn the patience to accept that he can't win every ball, nor should he expect every ball.

If Harris, Moore, and Twellman can establish the right connection... they could be right deadly as a three-headed hydra from an attacking standpoint. I mean, seriously... these are all players you can't give an inch two.

I am quite looking forward to seeing how they work out.

Yeah, and out of JMM's 4 seasons, only ONE of them was a full season (joined up late in 1996, only played 14 games, injuries limited him to 13 in 1997 and only started 12, injuries and WC98 limited him to 21 in 1998. His only full season came in 1999). Barring injury, Joe-Max will bag more goals than Twellman this season. guaranteed.

    that is true....

but! if he got injured back then, when he was younger, he is older, and therefor more injury prone.

Interesting discussion. I don't think there's a better up-top duo in MLS than these two when they're both on their games. I'll tell you something: I think JMM, if healthy, is going to draw more attention from defenders than TT. It's funny, but even after last year and TT's sparkling league debut, I think JMM is going to be seen as the go-to guy by opponents. I predict Twellman being the beneficiary of Moore's presence on the field.

But life and our season will suck hard if no one can hold the ball in the middle. Teams will pick up on the end of last season and try to negate Ralston at every opportunity.

    imagine if we had nowak

4 defenders, who would they go for?

4 go-to-guys(assuming we had nowak) him, jmm, ralston and tnt

Twellman will beat u off the dribble, Ralston will anhiliate you off the dribble, JMM most of the time will... and prolly nowak. thats great... that WOULD be great actually.

I still get a lump in my throat thinking about how that deal turned out.

Well, the season's almost here, and with management treating the Costa Rica Cup matches like pre-season--which, of course, they are--we should find out pretty soon how good this team is.
