Anyone know if anything is on the horizon as far as the technology changing? Seems a bit outdated that we still get shafted on channels only offered in SD(or not at all) due to limited bandwidth. Also, red button technology(for instance, on beIN you could hit the red button and watch Serie A instead of La Liga if they were at the same time) seems to be a thing in other countries.

Are we pretty much relying on streaming and advances in that? ESPN is still the only content provider that works as far as phone or tablet-to-tv reliably for me. Flinging tabs to the tv via chromecast is not up to a reasonable standard and obviously not on-demand.

And don't come out of the woodwork crying about the old days where they did commercials in the middle of the half in the 1980 World Cup. We've evolved, granda.

Sidenote: was at the Sloan analytics conference and one panel mentioned attending games via Oculus from the comfort of your own home. Genuinely unreal in concept if you have the time to look it up and ponder its implications.

If we wanted anything like "red button", the best option would probably be to multicast, like what ESPN does on occasion. Here's a sample situation:

Say FOX has the UEFA CL Final:
Broadcast FOX: Regular broadcast with American announcers.
    FOX Sports Deportes: Spanish-language broadcast.
FOX Sports 1 - Announcers from one team's country.
FOX Sports 2 - Announcers from another team's country.
    FXX - Natural stadium noise
FX - Camera behind the goal with FOX commentary.

But honestly, this might be a bit expensive for them to run, as they couldn't run commercials. Stuff like this can work on ESPN because they know that during a big championship game, no one would watch SportsCenter on ESPN News and timefiller on the other channels...plus, they can still run commercials on the other channels.
