Call me a loser if you like, but I've always liked the network themes for sports. As well as the accompanying graphics and animations. Some of my all-time favorites are the NASL on TVS, Hockey Night in Canada circa 1980, Baseball on NBC circa late 80's, and of course the NBA by NBC by John Tesh. But among the currents, what do you like?
Here's my top 5: 1. NBA on NBC 2. Soccer on ESPN - I don't know, it doesn't happen that often so I get excited. 3. Champion's League on ESPN 4. NFL on Fox 5. Match of the Day on BBC (old school, baby)
Funny you should mention Match of the Day. Some guy at the USL board mentioned it. Couldn't find it at Kazaa, Audiogalaxy probably would've had it. Shame. My favorite is the NHL on ABC. I get chills just thinking about it. Shit, I need to get out more.
I hate that Champion's League theme. The Soccer theme on ESPN/ABC generally gets me fire up but is not great in and of itself. My favorite would have to be T.W.I.B. Brings back such memories. One Shining Moment is great too. The Olympics theme. ESPN (or maybe SportsChannel) used to show a Game of the Week in the late 80s that I would always watch. Loved the theme to that.
My favs - Match of the Day - NCAA Football on CBS - CBS golf - the old man nap theme song. - BBC Grandstand Worst - Fox Sport World lead in music.
Catchiest: NBA on NBC (composed by none other than John Tesh!). Seriously, every time I heard that theme, I'd have it in my head for week. I haven't heard in almost a year, and just from typing this, I'll have it my head for a month. Ugh. Stupid thread. Best: NHL on ABC. So dramatic, so dark.
Does anybody remember the promo ABC ran for Monday Night Football, two seasons ago? The one where the guy was flatlining and the nurse came in and put the headphones on his and pressed play, and the Monday Night Football theme revived him.
the CL song used for espn2 is the CL hymn, i've always thought. "These are the champions" in the different european languages. the nfl on fox has a cool theme.
COllege Football on ABC. It always got me pumped on a saturday afternoon. I think I'm thinking about the one from a few years ago though
NBA on NBC sux big time! It sounds(ed) like the doorbell from hell. Never knew the John Tesh reference, so I hate it even more now! I liked the old CBS one better, but can't get it into my head! Damn you Tesh! I have old Lakers/Boston/Pistons finals on VHS, so I might dig them out just to hear it. Pat OBrien was cool back then. The older Monday Night Football was good (not that "are you ready" crap by Hank Williams, Jr.). It is cool with the lows and peaks. I hate the Fox soccer, air guitar music they play. It doesn't flow well with games. Too slow to get you pumped for a game and after a game it seems to slow after watching a good match with fast paced anouncers. Did someone record this in the bathroom of a hotel late one night? I watched an NFL Films on the German guy who composes all their music. Classic guy and classic music. Best hands down. The NHL (USA-ABC/ESPN) theme is cool. Sounds very CCCP old school like.
