Only choice is do we watch it in Portuguese or English...

My vote goes to watching it on RTPi....I can't stand listening to announcers calling them "Sporting Lisbon"

When I was younger around 7 I think I knew of the big 3 but just knew them as Sporting, Benfica, Porto. Then one day I hear someone say Sporting Lisbon and I thought the makes sense 'till I saw the badge with "SCP" I couldn't figure out for the life of me how "Lisbon" fit in with those letters. Then I found out what it meant but still don't know why announcer's call it that. Maybe because a club can't claim to be the "official" club of the Country in the minds of those outside of Portugal?

I just saw the commercial where they show Porto fans from each winning year and the changing of the guard to Sporting fans. Very nice RTP does good futebol commercials. Like the Taca commercial kids representing each of the semi-finalists playing musical chairs for the 2 spots, and all run in at the end.

According to Sporting's website Thursday's game will be broadcast on TVI in Portugal, I know they don't have an international channel and they had an arrangement with RTPI to broadcast their Superliga game weekly, anyone know if RTPI will be broadcasting this game? I know the game is on GOLTV, but there is nothing on RTP's website yet....usually they don't update it until the day of the game which sucks but that is another issue. From what I read here Forca Sporting has a contact at RTP, have you heard anything?
    Thanks

I am gathering quite the reputation as the resident BS Portuguese forum TV techie, huh?!

From what I found out, RTPi will indeed broadcast the AZ Alkmaar x Sporting CP match, however the match will be shown repeated 2 hours after the match ends. So, it looks like the match will be shown at or around 7:00 pm EST on RTPi, however this can change. From what I understood, there were issues with the fact that the 1st leg of the semi-final was shown internationally on what is a free channel, so in order to appease rights holders in other countries who paid big bucks to show the match live exclusively (or so they thought), RTPi will show this match in a repeated form. That means...

    UEFA Cup: Semi-Final, 2nd leg

Thursday, May 5, 2005 @ 3:00 pm EST - AZ Alkmaar x Sporting Clube de Portugal LIVE on GOL TV; repeat on RTPi (TBD).

    Enjoy!

You are truly a good man for doing this....instead of www.soccertv.com I now check this thread weekly.

Thanks for doing this for all of us as it saves a bunch of time...

Hopefully I can repay what you do with some info in the future....

    Keep up the good work....

There is no mention of the AZ Alkmaar vs. SCP game on the RTPi website...

as Forca Sporting writes in his previous post in this thread in might be shown on Tape Delay....

Hopefully this is the case, because I so don't want to listen to the Goltv idiot announcers Phil Schoen and Ray Hudson...

All Hudson can do is grunt and yell if there is a scoring chance and both incorrectly called out the players names...repeatedly calling Douala as the Nigerian Enarkarhire...and confusing Polga with Rochemback...

Just awful, no clue about Portuguese Soccer....they could have done a bit of research if they new that these 2 teams were involved...

They also pronounced Liedson as "Leedson"

    Great Job....NOT....

Thanks for the kind words, JuveLeo. I do this to help all of us North Americans out, and it's something that I like to do. TV is a hobby for me (right, Portoholic ;) ) and I consider this stuff fun, not work...

Also, just to confirm what I previously posted, RTPi will be showing the 2nd leg of the AZ Alkmaar x Sporting match tape-delayed at 5:15 pm EST. This has been confirmed on their website this morning - check it out.

I know how could it be live if it's 2 hours later? I meant watch it, without any knowledge of the outcome.

Wonderful news just released regarding the UEFA Cup final! Fox Soccer Channel and Fox SPorts World en Espanhol have picked up the US rights for the final, and Rogers Sportsnet (all 4 regions) will be showing the game here in Canada!!! I guess all of the e-mails to Rogers paid off :D Very good news for Canadians!!!

I am quite surprised that Goltv would teleivise the semi's and not get the final....weird...

I just hope SCP do their part and get to play in it....

What a Party it will be:p

Is anyone planning on recording the 2nd leg of the AZ x Sporting match? Please let me know, as I will be going out to watch this game and would really enjoy the chance of watching at home again (and hopefully again and again and...). Thanks.
