ESPN's schedule has the following: We're scheduled for a live game on ESPN on Sunday, January 18 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern. We're schedule for a qualifier (the schedule specifially says a WCQ) on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. on ESPN2
I hope that an annual winter-time game in Miami becomes a long-standing tradition for both the USMNT and their travelling supporters.
Won't that be right up against the NFL Playoffs? If so that's terrible scheduling. 5:00 is a little early, no? Seems a bit odd.
Re: Re: TV news Yes, especially since we don't know where we're playing. I think all of the islands (away game) are 1 hour ahead, and I don't think they would kickoff at 6pm. This may just be a placeholder. Sachin
Re: Re: Re: TV news That's what I was thinking. Might be a road game. I am actually a little surprised that US Soccer is airing these games that should realistically be a formality. They could probably buy TV time to air more "marquee" friendlies.... JMHO.
Re: Re: Re: Re: TV news I have to disagree with you. It may only be a game against Anguilla or Greneda, but it's a game that counts. As nice as those matches against Italy and Spain would be, they don't count for anything. Think of it this way: 1994 and 1998 exposed a lot of people to the World Cup. Judging by the crowds in 2001, we exposed a lot of people to the final round of qualifying. Now it's time to expose them to the preliminary rounds. Friendlies are exhibitions and quite frankly, not the best way to promote the game. ANY qualifier, no matter how humble the opponent, is infinitely more important than a fiendly, no matter how grand the opponent. Sachin
i wonder if we might schedule something in place of the feb 18th match hmmm are both games still listed?
ESPN has a game for the men in Carson against Denmark starting at 3:30 eastern on Sunday. Jan. 18. ESPN2 has a place held for a men's qualifier (which we no know won't happen) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18. I imagine that will just disappear since there is college hoops on ESPN and ESPN2 that evening. March has nothing listed and April is not online yet.
The Feb. 18 game now has a 2:30 start time on ESPN2, lending a lot of credence to the US at Holland rumors. The tagline on the schedule no longer says World Cup Qualifier.
