With that much light do I want Plasma, LCD, or LED?

While at Costco, I saw this Samsung.

    55” 1080p 120Hz
    LED Edge Lit LCD HDTV
    Resolution: 1920x1080
    Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 4,000,000:1
    $1999.99

    The picture looked fantastic.

Do I really need to spend $2000?
I was hoping to be closer to $1200 - 1500.

    Any others you recommend?
    Important features?
    Brands to avoid?

    Plasma would be fine.

LED or LCD... no..no..no....LED stands for "Light emitting diode". This is the "light source" behind the LCD "Liquid Crystal display". Older LCD TV's have the florescent lighting behind the LCD. Forgot the full terminology as of this writing. LED is a "newer technology which allows the TV to be brighter and more colorful while using less power. Also, the LEDs can dim in dark places while others stay bright during the same seen behind the LCD. LED is just the "back lighting term", not the TV. All LCD TV's are either florescent or LED back lite.

back to topic, LCD's are brighter and have stronger colors in well lite rooms. But, these have a downside...Color bleed over. Good thing is, you wont see it, but it's there.

Also, depends on what you are using this TV for.

    LCD...Gaming/streaming/internet/basic cable viewing.

    Plasma...best for watching Bluray movies.

Be careful when you go into a store, they put disney/pixar cartoon movies on because they all look great on new TVs. I have a DLP which I like I got it for the size/cost its better in low light. We also have a LCD which is in a open room with more light. Unless you are very picky about the quality being the absolute best I would decide on LCD/Plasma based on the light in the room and then find something affordable.

    LED-LCD is more accurate.

By my experience, plasma tends to be more succeptible to screen burn-in. I have a 5-year-old plasma TV, and it tends to leave charged pixels widespread all over the place.

I would recommend LED-LCD, which is more energy-efficient than a straight LCD.
