This certainly doesn't help the cause of those who want to see Serie A return to CBS/Paramount. With all the EFL content, there is less pressure for Paramount to increase their offer for Serie A rights, while for Serie A, it's all about the money. We could see a situation where ESPN+ swoops down for Serie A and in the end we just get a swap of rights inventory between CBS & ESPN. SA
Just a random thought on a Sunday morning: I'm an old guy. So old that I remember when "US TV" meant 3 networks - CBS, NBC & ABC (and a bunch of UHF channels the rabbit ears could pick up locally). So I find it a little ironic that starting this season, you will need 3 services to watch English football: NBC owned Peacock for the Premier League ABC owned ESPN for the FA Cup CBS owned Paramount+ for the EFL & League Cup Just proving the old adage: "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Like I said, random thought of the day... SA
Exactly. I know a lot of us remember when it was four games on Fox Sports World (three being live), one on Setanta Sports USA and a bonus one live if you had DirecTV on Setanta Sports Xtra. The SSX game was delayed on Setanta. FSW had two games on Sunday and then the weekday games. Because Setanta Sports USA had the first pick, they would always pick one of the big teams. I can't remember how many times FSW had a game like "Aston Villa v Newcastle" or look! "Bolton vs Wigan." But it was what we got and we liked it. Nowadays, if you want to watch Chelsea vs Liverpool or Man City vs Tottenham, you don't need a specific provider and $19.99/mo. Hell, $20/yr with the promo code can do it.
I can't remember which games it was, but I remember the 11am ET Sunday EPL game being on PPV...at least I think that was the one and wasn't one of the Saturday EPL games also on PPV?
Yes, for sure the early kick-off on Saturday was at some point on PPV (Setanta). I remember going to the pub pretty much every Saturday for the 10a ET matches in my younger years. I had to time my arrival quite well because the pub would fill up for those games (good times!!), but if I arrived too early and the 7:45a match was still going they would charge $20 at the door. Can't recall if it was 1 or 2 PPV games per week. The timeslot of the PPV game(s) may have also changed over the years.
Maybe it was the game, but I also heard of some pubs that would waive the cover charge if $20 of food/drink was purchased. I know the Sunday 11am game was PPV (including cable/satellite), but I also feel like the Saturday 10am game was at one point. I do remember the Saturday 7:30am games being on FSW during the Arsenal "invincibles" era.
Yeah, perhaps I am mixing up the 7:30 and 10. Though its odd that a 10a game would be PPV as typically the 7:30 would be the more attractive match (still true 20 years later).
Now that I think about it, I'm almost certain it was the 10am game, as that was on Setanta. FSC had a 9:30am Bundesliga game on a 30-min delay. I definitely remember a game from Arsenal's undefeated streak being at 7:30am on FSW. There's probably a bit of a "we want the big games on TV in England" factor since they had that dumb rule about 10am ET games not being televised in England.
I remember one year Christmas fell on a Saturday and they let Fox Soccer Channel do the big 10am game instead of a Christmas morning PPV
Looking like a game of chicken with the USA Ligue 1 rights as no deal is in place with the season starting in three days. Guessing it ends up back on BeIN but who knows?
Watching the pregame before Colo Colo v Junior game and bein just ran an ad for new season of Ligue 1 coming back Aug 16.
Must have been agreed to today since the guide still shows Turkish soccer on Friday afternoon instead of the PSG match.
Any word on rights for Italian Serie B looks like Fox doesn’t have it anymore. Starts today Palermo vs Brescia.
It seems Fox Deportes has picked up select Italian Serie A matches. More information in the link. https://www.foxsports.com/presspass...-u-s-spanish-language-media-rights-agreement/
Scorebug updates for the major European leagues' world feeds New - Serie A, Ligue 1 Unchanged - Premier League, La Liga Unknown - Bundesliga, which starts next week
FINALLY! Ligue 1 is providing English commentary on the world feed for the Sunday afternoon (morning in the USA) matches. In years past these matches, found on BeIN Connect, would only have stadium sound and the one shown on the main BeIN channel would have their in-house announcers on it.
Just saw this Bein wants the rights to Portuguese league. https://www.facebook.com/share/P7Qa29fq9fyfVdMn/?mibextid=WC7FNe
Looks like bein picked up rights or some rights to the Salvadorean Primera. Showing Firpo v Once Deportivo on Sat and Platense v Aguila on Sunday (both on bein sports en Espanol)
