ASHGABAT – Turkmenistan champions Ashgabat brought the curtain down on their victorious 2007 campaign with a comfortable 3-1 over Talyp Sporty to finish five points ahead of runners-up MTTU. Arslanmurad Amanov opened the scoring for Ashgabat in the 31st minute and although Perman Begjanov equalised for Talyp six minutes later, Amanov restored the champions’ lead with his second on the stroke of half-time. Turkmenistan international Redjepmurad Agabaev rounded off Ashgabat’s 19th win of the season with the third and final goal in the 62nd minute but he couldn’t reach the tally set by Berdy Shamuradov, who netted 16 of MTTU’s 66 goals to finish the league’s top scorer for the third time in four seasons. Shamuradov headed the scoring charts in 2004 with 19 goals before eclipsing that total the following year when he struck an incredible 30 times as MTTU won back-to-back Turkmenistan titles. ASHGABAT – Head coach Rakhim Kurbanmamedov has named just two Turkmenistan-based players in the 20-man squad called up for the Central Asians’ FIFA World Cup 2010 qualifying opener against Korea Republic. The duo is MTTU defender Begli Annageldiyev, Turkmenistan’s Player of the Year in 2007, and Nazar Choliev, who plays his club football with league champions FC Ashgabat. It was Korea A team, not Korea U-23. BTW, the first time the "Tan Brothers" participated in Asian Games were in 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan. They shocked Asian power houses. In the group stages, Turkmenistan drew with China 2-2, Iran 1-1, Bahrain 2-2 and beat Yemen 2-1, finishing as runner-up behind China. Unfortunately Turkmenistan had to meet its brother Uzbekistan in the quarter final and lost 0-3. Uzbekistan then became the winner beating China 4-2 in the final. Igor Skhvyrin of Uzbekistan was the top scorer (8 goals) together with Korean Hwang Sun Hong. Igor Skhvyrin, who played for Israeli club Maccabi Haifa, always scored when Uzbekistan met China, either in Asian Games or World Cup Qualifiers. Do you know what he is doing now?
He is a manager of the club OTMK. Last year he trained Qizilqum. Yes, that Asian Games was very awesome for our national football team. Especially, the semi final match against Korea Republic. We had only one shot during the hole of the match and that was a goal. (And even in that case it was the mistake of the Korean goalkeeper.) Koreans attacked us 90 minutes, dozens of shots, corners, free kicks, but they couldn't score. Yuriy Sheykin, the goalkeeper of our National team was announced to be the Hero of Uzbekistan after that match.
I see. He is a club manager now. In the 1998 Asian Games, beside Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, Tajikistan also qualified to the Asian Games Finals. But why didn't we see Kazakhstan in those 2 Asian Games?

Is there any reason why Turkmenistan failed to properly prepare for the first World Cup qualifier in February against Korea? Looking through the friends teams played, we had teams from the Gulf such as Kuwait playing four times yet Turkmenistan failed to do anything. Also, the club teams haven't entered for the AFC Cup, has the FA suddenly shut up office?
Dont know why they dont seem to prepare too well against Korea Rep. Maybe problems to get the team together when so many play abroad ? Turkmenistan have a club in President`s Cup , they are not allowed to be in AFC Cup.
Have AFC taken a view that Turkmenistans clubs are not strong enough for AFC Cup or just want to make Presidents cup stronger?
I think they are among AFC "emerging" countries , that`s why they are competing in AFC Challenge Cup and AFC President`s Cup.
ASHGABAT – There were mixed fortunes for local sides in the opening Group C matches of the 2008 Turkmenistan President’s Cup on Friday with Ashgabat defeating Iran’s youth team and Nebitchi losing to Vakhsh. Ashgabat, the reigning Turkmenistan league champions, edged the young Iranians by a solitary goal with Yusup Orazmamedov scoring the winner after just four minutes. Nebitchi also conceded an early goal in their match against Tajikistan’s Vakhsh with Numon Khakimov putting the 2006 AFC President’s Cup runners-up ahead in the seventh minute. Vitaliy Alikperov equalised for 2004 Turkmenistan champions only for Khakimov to seal the win for Vakhsh with his second in the 72nd minute.
