I haven't played indoor in two or three years and now I remember why, sore ankles, aching shins. We can put a man on the moon but can't come up with a decent artificial playing surface. Blows my mind.
the only other option would be to do Sapporo domes in the US, which would be very, very, very costly and would certainly kill indoor soccer.
I could not agree with you more, turf does suck, especially if you play keeper. Ever wonder what a turfburn on a cheekbone looks like? I have a picture..... Anyhow, look into facilities that offer Astroplay. If you live in central Indiana, you won't have to look very far..... Just For Kicks opens fall 2003. P.S. Gareth, this is the same mike you emailed about indoor soccer construction. Sorry mate, we already found a developer.
Astroplay is a great turf,The best i have played on,You should give it a try. http://www.astroplay.com It's good enough for Real Madrid so it should be good enough for you
I played on Astroplay Turf for the first time last night and it is a different surface for sure. It does take some adjustment time but it is superior to most other artificial surfaces I've played on. Couple things I noticed though, It can be very slick. I played defender as well a keeper during this game and noticed that when I placed backspin on a pass or throw, the ball takes off (skips) like it was on wet grass. It slipped well past the player I was leading the pass to resulting in a few turnovers that were "unforced". As well, I slipped a few times myself while executing an off balance pass due to a 50/50 ball or executing a move on the dribble that didn't finish perfectly. I'm sure these errors will reduce with more experience on the surface but it is quite a bit different than the traditional turf that "grabs" everything <including ACL's>. In the mean time, there could be quite a few injuries for all kinds of teams (football, soccer, baseball, etc...) that play at multiple locations with both types or surfaces until all facilities evolve/update their artificial fields to a new standard. It is a superior product... It'll take time to adjust to.
i've played on the turf at Giants Stadium a few times and i must say it's the best surface i've ever played on....the ball just glides on the turf....great surface i love it....
astroplay good? If astroplay is seriously the turf type that the New York Football Giants use, then that stuff is no good. The Meadowlands turf is as ugly as it is bad to play on. Guys go out and sprinkle out more turf at half to cover up the holes. Guess that stuff doesn't hold up in the outdoors.
Re: astroplay good? I don't believe Giants Stadium uses artificial turf of any kind. I think they still use natural grass.
Re: Re: astroplay good? They went to natural grass following the 1999 MLS season. Before that, Metros used a grass tray system, and when NFL season started, the grass was removed and Metros played on the carpet.
anyone play on a nexturf surface? I was reading there statistics and it claims to be even better than Astroplay! Hopefully they will keep out doing each other and keep producing better and better turf
