I haven't seen it advertised anywhere but I understand the Burn will scrimmage Tulsa University today at 2pm, I believe it's at UT. Perhaps others know more. The other point is why? The team is pretty banged up and could probably use a break before the start of the season this Saturday.
Why would they go to Austin for a scrimmage? They usually just go to UT"D" or SMU. Sorry, I'm a bit of a smart arse. I work pretty close, maybe I will go check it out.
Me too! But in the last couple of weeks things have been looking up - got a follow-up interview this week - yipee! So, what kind of job are you looking for? (I think the Burn is hiring )
I'm horrible at given game reports but, I can say who I saw playing. ROB and Simo were both playing when I got there late in the first half but, Simo came off after the first half. Toni came in in the 2nd, as did Kries at right mid. Gbandi even came in at the end when I was leaving. Based on the Dallas/Chicago scrimmage, it looked like this was just an opportunity to get some minutes for the guys that didn't play. I did not see Reyes anywhere. Eck was playing some central defender with Goodson, and I think Talley played defender in the first half and went in as a center mid in the second. Some really short guy name "Jorge" was playing right back and Salyer came in at left back then moved to the right when Gbandi came in at the end.
Thanks for the report. Any impressions on Simo? You might be the first guy here who's actually seen him play in a game, much less with the team....
Sorry, I don't have much to say. I only saw him in for 10 minutes and 5 of that was spent adjusting my eyes to the sun! I think I recognized one or two inferno members at the scrimmage so maybe one of them can give a good report. The positive thing was that he and ROB are here and playing!
Jeffenbauer pretty much saw exactly what I saw. Simo & ROB playing was nice to see even if there was not all that much to see. I was wondering who Jorge was too. Cassar sure was barking at him the entire match. I figured just some scrub they brought in for today's scrimmage. I saw two goals (Thompson (I think) and Maurin) and I heard there was a third. Talley played first half at central defense and first part of the second half in central midfield for Simo. Nunez looked brilliant and awful, sometimes all within seconds. Rhine missed an open goal. About all I can think of at the moment.
I did especially like Cassar's use of the F bomb during one set peice! Something to the effect of "For F'ing, F's sake" Didn't make a whole lot of sense but the crowd did get a good chuckle.
Here was the starting lineup: ---------------------------Cassar---------------------------- Jorge Flores-------Goodson---------Ted Eck------------Todd ? Nunez------------Valakari------------O'Brien------------Maurin -------------------Thompson---------Kreis-------------------- Thompson draws penalty, Kreis nails it to upper right. Maurin scores next with clinical finish to right side netting from nice long Kreis pass. Rhine replaced Kreis around 30 minutes. Second half saw Nunez and O'Brien switching spots then Salyer came on later at left back. Much switching after that with MOM Maurin knocking in another. Toni for Rhine, Stone for Valakari, Behnke for Goodson, Gbandi to left back, Salyer to right, Todd ? to right mid. Eddie for Toni. Burn looked pretty good early but wityh a 3 goal lead they started looking disinterested late. Valakari looked pretty good and his forte seems to be intercepting passes at full spedd which caused alot of havoc. Plays very good positionally but needs to learn his teammates and make better passes. Not bad for first time out.
At this point just about anything business-esque related. My degree is in History so it's hard to get past the narrow-minded resume screener. I guess I mistook Eck for Talley in the first half. Training jerseys without numbers so it was hard to who was who at times.
Some quick hits about the scrimmage: Reyes MIA. Valakari played in the first half. Seemed like he will be the D-Mid destroyer we have been wanting. Passing was off. O'Brien was back. He put in a couple of nice crosses. Jorge Flores, yes that Jorge Flores, playing right back. Physically he looks exactly the same as he did back in 96. Ted Eck was the center back for most of the game Maurin was very good, clinical finishing. Nhlecko seemed disinterested. On one play, O'Brien sent in a perfect cross to a wide open Nhlecko and he could not even get his forehead on the ball. He kind of redirected the ball with his mouth/chin/neck. It went wide and looked painful. Tulsa did not have any scoring chances in the first half. They had several in the second half. Talley played the second half. Lots of verbal leadership.
somebody tell jeffenbauer to check his pm's. i'm a friend of his from college, but i haven't seen him in years. thanks.
