Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics I know this is another thread about the preseason road trips, but hopefully the moderators will allow it since it is meant to deal specifically with the hows and whys of the trips. First off, the games are: Saturday March 29th, 7:00 p.m. Oklahoma City Wizards vs. Crew Saturday April 5th, 2:00 p.m. Tulsa Wizards vs. Burn Now I'm assuming that people are making short trips, in other words, going there for the game and coming back afterwards. I know that there are plans for pregame tailgates, but please post if you're planning on spending more than the Saturday there. I'd like people to post whether they are planning on driving or carpooling, and if they plan on driving how many they could accomodate as carpool participants, and what time they plan on departing the KC/Lawrence area. Example: I'm planning on going to the Tulsa match for Saturday only. I plan on attending the pre-game tailgate. I'd prefer to carpool, but can press my old car into service and could take 3 others besides myself. If I was to drive, I'd probably want to leave the KC metro area by 7:30 a.m. at the latest. I do not plan on spending the night in Tulsa, but I do not have to leave immediately after the game. Please post with your plans.
Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics Lisa and I are just going to Tulsa and we are staying the night. We would have room for 2 people if they wanted a ride and were staying.
Tulsa Trip Only: I'm driving to Springfield, MO and meeting up with Matt (Ojsgillt) and his girlfriend early on the morning of the 5th and plan on reserving a hotel for the night in Tulsa so we dont have to get there early and find one. Then staying over Saturday night in Tulsa and driving home Sunday morning.
Hey, what about OKC? Is anybody coming down here? It should be a better game. I know it's a little farther, but come on. We have more to do if you're staying around.
Myself and my girlfriend are making both road trips. OKC we are spending the night but will get find a place when we get down there since it is the later game. We have two spots open in my car that we are more than willing to car pool with, though we want a room to ourselves We want to leave the KC area around 8:00 am so we can maybe see the OKC bombing memorial (once again her thing) I'd rather find a bar and watch the USA v Japan game that is within walking distance of the stadium if all possible. Tulsa, see BenC1357 If anyone has tips on a places to stay it would be nice.
Re: Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics where ever, here in the next couple days I was going to use yahoo yellow pages to find the stadium and nearby hotels. since i do plan on drinking, i'll be in the mood for a room like you had in Milwaukee after the Baymont kicked us out.
Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics So Mr. Latino you must have the same problem we do here in KC trying to find a place with the game on tv. I figured a man of your stature would have things in order down there.
Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics No ***************, I know you are not. I just saw your line under your name and went with it.
Ok, back to the subject..... I got online for the Tulsa trip and got maps to the stadium, and located three hotels that should be reasonable. I'll call them and see whats cheapest, but they're all within 3 miles of the stadium. Unless someone minds I'll use my better judgement to choose a place (probably the one just over a mile away) and get my room reserved. It'd be cool if we could all stay at the same place and walk to the game before hand so we dont have to drive afterwards.
Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics I agree Ben someplace close that we can stagger back too. A hotel like Lisa and I sayed at in Mil. would be money. Cheap, clean, with the 70's look and feel about it.
In OKC, my girlfriend and I will be staying with one of her friends who lives there. We are leaving Friday morning and planning it like a weekend vacation instead of a one day road trip. I will talk to her about what is around the college as far as hotels, bars, and other stuff. She used to go to UCO when she lived in Moore, OK. I'll see what I can find out and post it up.
Re: Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics Just as long as it has a bottle opener next to the toilet like that shag-tastic place did.
Re: Re: Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics I can find a map/directions to the college campus, but I can't find anything that shows specifically where Wantland Stadium is located. Any help with directions?
Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics Try this: http://www.ucok.edu/resources/campus_map.html Wantland Stadium is located close to the corner of Chowning and University. I figured it's probably important that I pipe up here with input, considering I've got the tickets... For Tulsa, there doesn't appear to be any parking close to the stadium. Any input on preferred tailgating locations would be helpful. As you can see, there are really only three options. The parking lot right across from the stadium (left), the parking lot for the basketball arena (right) and the parking lot at 8th and Harvard (top right). I'm planning on getting there around 10:00 or 10:30, to get the grill set up and going. I've got a buddy in Ripley, OK (Near Stillwater) that I'm going to pick up. For OKC, I'm looking to pass off the tailgating duties to someone else who can be there earlier, because I've got other plans. I'm still planning to get there between 4:00 and 5:00, but I'd rather have someone else take care of the tailgate. (Especially since there are fewer people going as of now. Speak up now and get your tickets!!!) There may be some limited parking, but if we can get something set up in parking lot MP11 (see the PDF file in the link above) that would be GREAT!!!!!
Suggestions that Stomper gave me about OKC. A close buy bar is called Henry Hudsons (On 2nd between Coltrane & Bryant) go to www.mapquest.com to find the intersection of 2nd and Bryant and you can see that it is only a couple blocks from the school I nominate this place for pregame spot to watch the US nats game.
Hey Matt, my GF said the same thing-must be a popular place in OKC! She also said that Edmond is more of a residential area and it would be easier to find a place to stay in the northern part of OKC.
Re: Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics I've found a hotel (Microtel Inn) that is 1.7 miles away. I we can easily walk that. I plan on staying there, and drinking before/after.
looks like for OKC, there is a Ramada Plaza that is on 2nd street that is right across from the school. It isn't cheap, but I promised Kelly I we would have a hotel with a pool and hot tub on the first trip. There is also a bar/lounge there so it is also possible to drink there.
ok, I am giving this another bump. I am staying at the ramada plaza, it is on second street directly acrsoss from the OCU campus. Henry Hudson's, where we will be watching the US nats game is about 6-8 blocks down the street. phone # of hotel is 341-3577 http://www.the.ramada.com/edmond02715 prices are $69.00 for two adults in a room. This seems to be the nicer of the hotels in the immediate area. If the team is staying the night, I would put my money on them staying there.
Matt, if you still have a couple extra seats to OKC, could I possibly take one? I was thinking of driving, but my CRX is really uncomfortable on long drives, and my Acura has a bum transmission right now. I have the whole weekend off, so I'm up for whatever people's plans are.
Oklahoma Road Trips: Logistics Maybe there is a transmission virus working its' way across KC. Mine went out on my Altima also. I got to see mine after they pulled it, two gears were totally stripped - no teeth at all. I just picked my car up last Friday. New trany, clutch, and axle boot ---->$3800, lube not included.
