Time for a new thread on the Dallas Burn-KC Wizards exhibition game in Tulsa this weekend.

The game is set for Saturday, April 5 at 2:00pm. Location is Skelly Stadium (capacity 40,000+) at the University of Tulsa, 11th & Harvard (mid-town Tulsa, 1 mile south of I-244).

Ticket prices are: reserved ($14), adult general admission ($12), youth general admission ($9), TU students ($6), groups of 25 or more ($6) and children age three and under free. Tickets can be purchased through The University of Tulsa ticket office (918) 631-GoTU (4688) or at all Carson Attraction outlets (918) 584-2000.

I am attending with my family and about 10 friends.
Who else on the BSBoards is planning on being there?
What have you heard about ticket sales and expected crowd size?
How do you think it will compare to the 9,900 at OKC last Saturday?

    Game is definitely on

An obvious ploy by an Edmond/OKC supporter to suppress attendance in Tulsa!
We know your ways and will use all means at our disposal to crush your wicked regime!!

i heard from a friend of mine who is a student at u of t, the problem has to do with water getting underneath the field turf and loosening up its foundation, making it unstable, thus more likley to cause injury. maybe than can shift it to a jenks or the field where tulsa plays their soccer games. i hope it comes off, im looking forward to seeing the burn play, especially after there successful trip down in chile. if yall havent checked out the reports on www.3rddegree.net you really should its a good read.

I haven't heard anything in Tulsa media about a problem. Radio was pushing game on Monday and Sunday's paper carried a nearly quarter-page ad. I'll investigate and try to post a definitive answer on whether there is any problem or change in plans.

No problems at Skelly - Tulsa MLS Exhibition On!

Sorry accion, but you have bad information. I checked with TU ticket office and Athletics today and there is no problem with the field. The game is set for Skelly Stadium, this Saturday (4/5) at 2:00pm.

The ticket office said that sales have become really strong this week, with about 7,000 sold as of today.

Except accion's post was on March 31. I still suspect its part of an organzed plot by a group of OKC boosters to undermine the Tulsa match ;-). We'll be putting up a checkpoint at the Tulsa end of the Turner Turnpike later this week to interdict them as they attempt to sneak into T-Town.

Shows the importance of sticking to our guns if we do get a club, and insisting that they be the TULSA Whatevers, not "Oklahoma" Something-or-Others. Glad to hear the pitch is in good condition, much better than that cheap green doormat they had laid down at Skelly for so long. Wouldn't be so bad if it did have to be moved to Jenks though. It would be kinda neat to have the game at my alma-mater.

  13. Why would we need to screw up your exhibition game when we're a virtual lock for a team? Tuck Fulsa.

SP, you're so sensitive. Come on over and spend the weekend in Tulsa. It'll do you good to get away from OKC and spend time in a better environment.

Isn't the Skelly field that Play-turf stuff? Like the plastic blades of grass on top of rubber?

And also, is so, aren't there permanent football lines, etc?

the stadium could be skelly... but i think the main problem of tulsa is an owner/investor... I've never heared about that in Tulsa...

  18. BixB, I would, but why pay $7 to get disappointed? Too bad Richardson never got rid of those things :)

At any rate... Everyone seems to count out the possibility of two Oklahoma teams. I wouldn't really put it past us, considering that OU, OSU and Tulsa can draw over 100,000 to football games on any given Saturday in the fall. If some argue for two teams in Ohio - a much more saturated sports state (there are over 10 pro teams in Ohio) - why can't we argue for two Oklahoma teams? Oklahoma City/Tulsa have held storied rivalries before (Blazers/Oilers, SP/BixB), why not in the World's Game?

In either case, it could/should be noted that in the long run, one of the Oklahoma City--- er, Oklahoma "cities" --- will get at least one team, unless royally screwed. Either way, its good for soccer in Oklahoma, and soccer period.

    Expand in OKC

On this, at least, we agree! There better be at least one team in the Sooner State.

Either city could easily support a team. Yes, OKC is larger but Tulsa actually has more people actively involved in playing soccer (Oklahoma City metro: 15,000 youth and 5,000 adults; Tulsa metro: 19,000 youth and 6,000 adults (Daily Oklahoman 03-29-03)) and a history of a well-supported pro franchise (Tulsa Roughnecks second only to NY Cosmos in attendance in NASL).

Other posts about lack of I/O publicly stepping forward in Tulsa is a big concern for Tulsa's chances. Tulsa unfortunately doesn't have a group like Express Sports that is out front leading the charge. There has been indication from the Tulsa Mayor's office that there are interested parties, and there may be more going on quietly behind the scenes here than we know. My hope is that after the great turnout we are sure to have on Saturday, there will be some news on that front.

BTW, I saw reports about the game on two of the local network newscasts tonight (channels 6 and 8). Video was of crews preparing the pitch at Skelly for the match - adding stripes, etc.

    Expand in Tulsa!!!

All this talk about Tulsa's past soccer exploits reminds me of a quote at the bottom of every company prospectus I've seen: "Past results are not indicative of future performance." Just because Tulsa had the Roughnecks doesn't mean a team would do well. Get some investors who aren't ashamed to show their faces and put their necks on the line and we'll talk.

As for 7,000 tickets, I think about 1/4 to 1/3 of those are give away tickets. How many people are actually buying tickets (& the companies who bought the give away tickets don't count.)

That being said, If for some reason OKC gets hosed, I do hope Tulsa gets a team. I hate to say it, but I would still be a season ticket holder for a Tulsa team.

    Expand in OKC!!

Good lord... don't you guys read your own newspapers... the Daily Oklahoman has quoted Tom Warren who is a business liason to Mayor LaFortune as saying the interested investors for a team in Tulsa have a confidentiality agreement.

Common sense dictates that they will NOT be identified unless/until Tulsa passses a bond issue for stadium and other improvements and gets a team.

Geez... you guys get 9200 fans to come to an exhibition game. Congrats. THAT does not make OKC a "lock"... in fact, it'll be the dueling season ticket deposit drives in the coming months that shows who'll win this thing.

Unbelievable that you guys are so SCARED of little Tulsa as to come on here and start your crap about Tulsa not having anything in place. You, of all people should know better.

BTW, in your own Daily Oklahoman, it mentions the stadium being "expanded", not demolished and made into a new stadium... other quotes indicate that YES, VIRGINIA, you will be sharing said stadium with THREE FRIGGIN EDMOND HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS AND A D2 SCHOOOL IN THE FALL...

And I'm sorry, but MLS is FOURTH on the list of major leagues that OKC has pursued in recent years behind the NBA, NHL and Mayor Humphries favorite, "Arena Football," and MLS is FIFTH if you count the push for another minor league hockey team that would've played at the Ford Center.

Tulsans, on the other hand, kinda have assumed that if ANY pro teams had a chance here, soccer would probably have to be AT THE TOP OF THE LIST.

    Have a nice day. :)

    GO TULSA!

I'd rather share a stadium in the fall with high school football teams than play at that dump TU calls a stadium.

A few of the Mystics are coming down, as well as a chartered bus of fans from the Wizards organization themselves. We lost a few Mystics due to KU making the Final Four (they're making the trip) but we'll still have some there. Not sure how many, number vary from 5-20, plus about 25 on the Wizards bus. You'll know us, we've got the "Big Ass Flag".

See you Saturday, come have a beer and brat before the game with us.
