Not according tot he analysis I have heard. The HofR places that got flipped where Red with a Blue representative. It was a correction. The state legislatures that got flipped, along with a few other anomalies, are normal. What it seems more and more as we get away from the week of Nov 3 is that things are really fairly normal, on average, but with much higher turnout than normal. Swing states which were thought to be swing states, were...swing states (WI, MI, PA, and NC). States changing to blue showed that (CO, AZ). States which were typically red but thought might be purple (or be red with blue representation), stayed red (TX, SC, MT, FL). The only real anomaly in this election is GA, but there are always a few anomalies. @JohnR is right, this should about what the Dems did right, and how the Dems can improve on that.

Especially if you compare '20 to '16 the GOP lost both the WH and the House. But because there was a blue wave between that in '18, it seems strange.

In 2106 the Dem challenger for that seat won 137k votes. In 2018 Underwood won the seat with 156k votes. This year, the Republican challenger got 195k votes. Had Underwood won 194k votes, she would have lost the seat. Would that have been a failure on her part, if that had occurred? Hell no. She would have had by far the most votes in that district ever for a Democrat. As it was, she got 200k and was re-elected. But the moral was the same either way.

All these political analyses should be not why the Dems failed, or even despite my comment why the Republicans didn't take advantage of the game being stacked in their favor (although that does remain a salient question), but instead, "Why did both parties do so extraordinarily well at attracting voters in 2020?" That is the story that the political writers should be addressing.

It is obviously hard to hold these seats if there is a GOP wave, and that is something that Dems don't control - compared to '18 which was a blue wave election

His latest strategy is apparently via gatherings in hotel ballrooms and even that's not going great.
