Alejandro Burillo (Main FMF Investor) Has stated that the base of the 2006 National Team will be the U-23 squad. Qualifying the youth teams to their respective tourneys will now become a main priority for the FMF.

Hugo Grondona who is administrating the Youth Squads program has been working with U-15 players since last year to prepare the U-17 squad. Grondona has said that one of their goals is to prepare these players so that by the age of 21 they can go play abroad in foreign leagues..

Draws held to determine groups for final U-20, U-17 tournaments:

will this mean that there will be no .. Borgetti or De nigris For 2006 ?

TriColores 06 is the youth players that will be prepared for the Germany World Cup. the FMF did something very similiar back in 95 when they were under Bora Milutinovic. If you can remeber the
U-21 Squad that played the Mar de Plata games in Argentina (2ndplace) and then Competed in the Atlanta Olympics ended up beign the Majority of the squad for Copa America97 and World Cup98.

The only Diffrence Now is that the FMF is working with U-15/17 players as opposed to only U-21.

Brown ,Rodriguez,Arellano,Morales What will happend to these players and Blanco .. Will they still be considered to play 2006 or is it just the u17 and u23 that will be able to play??

Those players will still be in the National Team. The U-15 and U-17 will most likely play in 2010. The idea behind the Youth Squads is to prepare the players for international competitions and to get thme to play abroad. This Long term process with Continuation should wield positive results..

  7. This looks like what LaPuente wanted the FMF to do right b4 he quit/was fired as national team coach.

I think this does represent something of a shift for the Mexican FA. For the last couple of years they did not show so much interest in the youth tournaments. I think now they see some really good prospects and the value of getting them to play a lot together.

    Yes.

The FMF has never put much emphasis on the youth. They would talk and talk about it, but not do anything about it.

I think losing to Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, Honduras, COsta Rica, and the US really woke us up.

There is no reason why Mexico should lose to those teams. I can understand the US, considering all the resources they have..but we have them too. But Mexico should not lose to those sub par teams. Much of it is due to lack of discipline. Costa Rican Forward, Hernan Medford said that Mexico tends to show up to the big games and forgets to show up to the small ones. What he was trying to say is that they dont take them serious..

I think that is what we should change that mentality also. Part of that has to do with the dictatorship that is in the TFC front Office. ITs not like we want to seperate ourselves from the rest of the confederation...but when you have a guy that is out to get you.. you really could careless about the opponents in your area

v.s., the mexico u20's played outstanding ball, but as was pointed out to you on the u.s. junior teams board, this is a usasa (i think that's the name) championship, and the national teams are just brought in to add to the competition. the south regional team won the championship this year.

who you think will be the future stars of the Mexican team..

It is hard to say at this point which are the stand out players in the U-15 and U-20 Mexican National Teams. the FMF/MFL does not promote their youth players good enough that at an early age we are allready aware of them..

One of the players in that age group that Clearly stands out is Aldo DeNigris who has received an oportuinity with Tigres. If Ochoa had not gone to Osasuna on loan i doubt that Aldo would be getting any playing time. Anyways he is one of the few players that we will be able to follow regularly.

With the U-23 Squad there are players that most of us are familiar with. #7 LUIS PEREZ (NECAXA) has been playing in Primera Division since last year. One of the future Defensive Mids. #13 RAFAEL MARQUEZ (U.N.A.M.) with Pumas is a good young striker. #15 ISMAEL IÑIGUEZ (MORELIA) is also another player that have been making a name for themselves. Those would be the players to look out for..

The FMF website had the U-20 team as Champions of the 2002 US Soccer Festivel. Maybe they are just stating the Obvious, that the Mexican Youth team made the most points of all the teams competing.

Reports like these are great to see. It seems that the younger generation of players coming up in CONCACAF nations is better than ever, with Mexico, Canada and the USA leading the way. I hadn't heard of many of these tournaments. Good to see that the youth movement is region wide.

I would have to say that the USSF paved the way for the MFL to start working with their Youth Teams. With less resources the US had all of its youth teams playing in their respective tournaments, Mexico had none.

This is one of the benfits of having a Rivalry. As we can see the first two toruneys that the Mexican Youth Squads have played this year have been in the U.S. against U.S teams..

As far as the ones who are on the U-23 team theses are my picks:

5 COSME CASTRO (PUEBLA) - Solid young d-mid.

6 DIEGO MARTINEZ (NECAXA), 7 LUIS PEREZ(NECAXA) - Martinez had a breakout season this past season, as for Luis Perez, he's been playing for around 3 years already for Necaxa. He was even in the World Club Championships in Brazil and is already capped for the Seleccion Mayor.

    13 RAFAEL MARQUEZ (U.N.A.M.)
    good young forward

14 HECTOR UZZIEL LOZANO (TOLUCA) - He paired up with Cardozo in Tolucas first game of the season. He was impressive, definitely one to look out for.
