I meant during his time he was the best; I didn't mean the best winger ever. I also didn't mean to compare him to Karimi. I think they're both massively talented players. BTW Karimi's case highlights how overstated the "Europe" factor can be, because Karimi's career in Europe was not very impressive, but you still consider him the best playmaker ever. I love Sami Al-Jabir to death, but on what basis is he better than Yousef Al-Thuniyyan? Sami is just better known in the international media because he appeared in a lot of WC's and played in England for a few months, but that doesn't make him better than Yousef. Sami Al-Jaber and Saeed Al-Owairan are the most famous Saudi players internationally, but no Saudi considers either of them the best ever (well maybe a minority would say Sami). The big debate in Saudi is usually between Majed and Yousef, but I think Majed was massively overrated. Yassir Al-Qahtani is much more gifted technically than Majed and he has already equaled Majed's scoring rate with the national team (80%) even though Yassir plays against more sophisticated opposition.
shut up and do some reading fool.... If I wanna compare Iranian players to Australians who are in Europe I would compare them to player like Hashemian and Mahdavikia who have been in Germany for god knows how long... Karimi chose to leave Europe he had tons of offers but Arab clubs offer easy football plus lots of money.
Totally agreed. The point about Karimi is about his skills and how he made in Bayern.I would be stupid to say that Karimi is a bad player,he's one of my favourites, but I think Yousef is better. But since Yousef didn't appeared in Europe, people put Al Jaber ahead him...and being realistic,Sami was a very good player, but Yousef is miles away in terms of skill,is visible. I would put Yousef between 50+ in history...difficult to find someone who won many important tournaments playing like that.
Lol? 2 players playing in JUST the Bundesliga? We have had thousands of players playing in Europe and we have 100's in Europe right now as we speak
we currently have 5 THAT ARE PLAYING FOR OUR NT... Teymourian premier league, nekounam la liga, shojaei la liga , mahadavikia bundesliga, hashemian bundesliga. we have tons mre Iranians playing in sweden n germany even france. but they are not in our nt roster like ashkan dejagah, amir shapurzadeh. shapoorzadeh didn't even get invited because our local clubs are better. how many of your hundreds of player are on ur NT? and let me make this loud and clear this thread clearly states best asian playermaker of all time your mike whatever his name is a striker and does not have the dribbling ability of karimi so pls stfu and stop bragging about australia thanx.
The Karimi vs. Naka vid is pretty good. Seems a little old though... left out the 2 SPL goal-of-the-season from 2006/07 and 2007/08. Still, I'd never say no to either player. 06/07 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuQ1lp6I_aY 07/08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkeUNsCbJ1g
yea it also left out karimis hatrick against south korea, his champions league goal with bayern, some other amazing dribbling with bayern, and his rapage of the UAE defense in the 2001 ACQs. but other than that it had pretty much everything (other than all his UAE and IPL games). watch these goals and assists and dribbles and passes and tell me how karimi did not make it in europe:
Well... if we're talking about Champions League games... do I really need to go there? I mentioned those 2 goals cuz they were truly stunning, showed some real class that, in both cases, defined Celtics' winning seasons. edit: just to be clear, I never said he didn't make it. Karimis a great player that will be talked about for years in AFC, but he's not the only one.
yea i didnt mean you lol. i meant those who said he failed in europe... he had a pretty good first season and a huge injury ruined his second and he was just not motivated to stay in germany and train hard again.
I think he knew he couldn't cut it with the best at Bayern and took the easy option, obviously his injury played a part in that also.
Hi I'm an ozzi bloke who has limited knowledge on Asian players. I don't know who Asia's best play maker of all time is. Heck I don't even know who the best Australian play maker of all time is. But for me, for a player to be even considered best the first prerequisite would be the will to strive for excellence and improvement. The fact that Karimi chose cash over the chance to prove himself, automatically disqaulified him from the honour of being named 'the best'. I'm not saying he isn't talented, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve recognition. He simply doesn't conform to the values of how 'the best' players should act and think.
I'd take Nakamura in his prime over Karimi in his prime. Also I'd like to add even though he wasn't a playmaker, Cha Bum-kun (Cha-boom!) > both of them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cha_Bum-kun
This thread brings a smile to my face, as GOLTV is featuring this week's LIVING LEGEND is dedicated to Karimi and Kewell. It's on at 8AM EST on Saturday
