Hoping that the match is not comprimised in any way by the events in London, should we arrange some kind of tribute or show of solidarity with Londoners when Chelsea visits?

That's an outstanding idea! K, can you put this in front of your DCU contacts?

Excellent idea. It would be good to show that we stand united with England. An attack on London is like an attack on any of our cities.

I would agree that something should be done.

America has no truer friend than Great Britain, and this is a great way to show it.

What exactly would people like to see done? (Proposing a concrete idea to DCU will get farther than asking them to come up with something).

Not sure if they will do anything on Sat either (haven't heard, if they are going to have a moment of silence or something, I hope we get a heads up so we don't look like boobs cheering after the National Anthem).

How about unfurling a banner in the SE and Barra sections? Something w/ the DCU and CFC logos?

Moment of silence for both occasions is probably called for.

A few banners and flags should be in the offing too.

Heads up for those that don't already know, land and cell phone service is patchy. E-mail service is still intact and working well, at least from my experience today.

Hm. Here's an idea, then: why don't you ask them to come over sooner to suit your preferred tribute time schedule

A Banner That Says "Stand Strong England, The Bastards Won't Win"

and the first two verses of God Save The Queen at the 9 minute mark would be good. It would take a lot of coordination and song sheets (or else have of us would be singing My Country Tis of Thee).

    God save our gracious Queen,
    Long live our noble Queen,
    God save The Queen.
    Send her victorious,
    Happy and glorious,
    Long to reign over us:
    God save The Queen.

    O Lord our God, arise,
    Scatter our enemies,
    And make them fall;
    Confound their politics,
    Frustrate their knavish tricks;
On thee our hopes we fix:
    God save us all.

I'm not sure one dose of sarcasm was enough for this post, so here's another: why don't we make a rule allowing remorse for innocent victims of terrorism to last at least three weeks

Just make sure whatever is done is well publicized. Recall that moment of silence for the Pope before the Pumas game - that all of us chanted through.

But only when it is in support of the club you support.

Sorry needed just a little more.

I think a moment of silence before the match is appropriate, with a banner containing the Stars and Strips and the Union Jack. Message something simple like

    "IN SOLIDARITY"
    British Flag USA Flag
    "IN REMEMBERANCE"
    "London 7.7.05"

I enjoyed the comments made by Blair after 9/11. I say we need to reply with a banner like:

"We in America Stand Shoulder to Shoulder With Britain"

How about booking the pre-game tailgate as a

    "Soccer Fans Against Terrorism" event.

I think the media would eat that up as soccer fans from the victimized capital cities come together in solidarity. Frankly all it would take is someone in each kit having a beer to get a pretty nice picture.

    And maybe a banner:

    London and Washington

UNITED against terror (nothing wrong with a hometown team support)

I like these. We'd be responsible for putting on the tgate obviously. Maybe between the groups, the unaffiliated and DCU we could get a banner made (now a banner on the rails, right?) Something overhead would be expensive for a 1 time use.

Keep the ideas coming, if we're doing something we'll have to get moving.

Any and all help I can provide for banners or anything, please let me know.
( I have a few high res CFC badges and such).

I think that this is a really great idea, and I am positive that all the travelling Blues would really appreciate the sentiment.

I've got a big England flag. I was going to use it too do something derrogatory towards Chelsea, but I don't feel right about that now.

God damn you terrorists. You stopped me from making fun of a team I hate.
