http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1...on-set-acquire-maurice-edu-stoke-city?cc=5901 Philly after Edu... Go!
No he really didn't. Edu has no skill on the ball when he's under pressure and the EPL is a league where you have very little time on the ball. Edu was a bad fit from the start. France would have been a good league for him.
Did you know that Stoke is tied for 3rd worst Goals Against (36) in the prem with Sunderland? Check it outhttp://www.goal.com/en-us/results-standings/64/english-premier-league-epl/table?ICID=OP_TN_21 Betcha that doesnt happen with Edu getting pt. And Stoke has only scored one more goal than Sunderland, b.t.w.
I don't think he's worse on the ball than any other of Stoke's midfielders, save Adam and Nzonzi. And surely he can cover more ground than most of them and kick people just as hard.
Exactly! I've always found it strange that he's not at a bigger club. He can do so much better than Stoke.
Two successive managers at Stoke have deemed him surplus to requirements (ie, not even good enough to make the bench). This January, when all the soccer world knows he's available for next to nothing, the only interest in Mo comes from Turkey/the Championship/MLS, and yet some still believe he's too good for Stoke. Only on BigSoccer...
My apologies. It occurred to me after I responded that your post might have been sarcastic, though there are certainly other posts here that are not (like the one saying Mark Hughes made a mistake...that one make me chuckle).
You're probably right. They'd be conceding even more. Last year Bursaspor allowed 1.2 goals per match over the course of the Turkish League season. However, they allowed 1.4 per match in the 10 matches Mo started for them during his loan spell...
He should be a centerback. His lack of skill on the ball and poor decision making in the middle of the pitch don't fit a proper cm.
IIRC, the USMNT games he's gotten under JK were during the 4-3-3 experiments, with Torres pulling the strings. I wonder how he would look now that our approach is a little less murky.
The big 5 nation club that was previously most interested in Edu was Auxerre, and they got relegated.
See! With Mo they wouldn't have gotten relegated. I don't get that a player with his very limited skills can make anywhere near a million. For that kind of money (salary) you can sign some awesome players.
I'm not sure why you are interested (as the focus of your post above was Mo's purported defensive abilities), but since you asked nicely, Bursaspor scored at a slightly higher rate during Mo's tenure. 1.6 gpg and 1.4 conceded per match versus 1.50 scored and 1.125 conceded in matches not featuring Mo.
I kind of like Edu also, like one of the posts above..I don't know much of his true soccer skill, but just his "look" or physical presence I like
hehe, not that way; I like his stature...he's different than the true "little" guys like Messi, Hassler, etc. and the lean skinny guys Neymar, Johannsson, El sharrawy, etc
