Sudden fond memories of ECS marching in the St Paddy's day parade in 2010, which ended at the mall downtown... and bursting into "Take the Mall!" to the puzzlement of patrons just sitting down to an outdoor lunch.

 

Great thread...thanks to all who contributed. My wife and I will be coming out for the Vancouver game. I expect it will be quite an environment to take in a match.

I used to live in Capitol Hill but haven't been back to Seattle in almost 10 years. Can't wait for this trip!

 

Sorry for the double post. Finally made it through this epic thread and I wanted to ask a question about our tickets to the game against Vancouver. We bought seats in section 120 through the SSFC ticket exchange. My wife and I will be pulling for the Sounders, of course, and are happy to stand and sing but I was curious if anyone could offer advice on what to expect as far as the fan experience.

Is the entire south end of the stadium General Admission? It looks like 120 is technically the Gorilla FC section. Anything we should know in advance about rules or guidelines for behavior?

 

I think 120 is actually near the ECS (if I'm not all mixed up for some reason) In either case you should expect to stand. If you're into singing they will have song cards, all you have to do is ask. Other people can probably speak to this more but yeah, that's the basic idea.

 

120 is assigned seating. 121, 122, 123 are the GA, so you are not in GA but you are right next to it. Primarily the most active supporters are in 122 and spill a bit into the edges of 121 & 123, that is where most of the flags will be flying and the core of the singing/chants/pogo and such.

120 will definitely be standing and from my one experience in a nearby section may be deafeningly loud at times which can be fun. Oddly it was harder to understand the ECS from that section than from my normal seats which are about 3x farther away. It was pretty much just a wall of noise.

As for Gorilla FC their banner may be across the entire section but they do not fill it so it will not be a case of the two of you being the only non GFC folks in the section.

I would expect a fun time and feel free to participate as you can. The section appears to be such that you will not get dirty looks for participating nor for failing to participate. There are not a huge number of banners or flags in the section for most games but there are always some, and a gorilla beating on a drum down front. Your view may occasionally be blocked by a banner or flag but it will be the exception rather than the rule during the game.

Also GorillaFC is pretty laid back. If you a fun normal person you will have no problems.

 

yeah the tickets i got are in section 122. i'm taking my friend with me who really has never been to a professional sporting event ever..he is about to get a taste of some true football fandom....what better way then to expose him to some of the best fans in the country??

My fiancee and I are going to be spending 2 nights in Seattle before taking a honeymoon cruise through Alaska - I'm looking for a reasonably priced Hotel in Downtown Seattle. Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance!

 

Reasonably priced + Downtown does not compute.

There are some ok places in Lower Queen Anne or Denny Regrade depending on how *nice* you want it to be.

If you'd like a clean room within walking distance of downtown, it is doable. Nothing fancy though.

What is your price range?

 

I enjoyed the Arctic Club Hotel when I went - not the most spectacular hotel I've ever stayed in or anything, but a cool building, and the rooms, though smaller than some, are nicely furnished with great beds. I think I paid right around $110 a night which I found very reasonable. It's downtown, has easy access to everything, and I walked to the game.

They actually have a $60 (or so) room they don't advertise because it's so small, but it's furnished the same as the rest and made a great "We didn't know we were stopping back in Seattle" room when I decided to stay an extra night on my way back from Vancouver. Had I known about it in advance I would've stayed there every night because when I travel, I don't spend much time in my hotel room.

For $150 you'll be able to find plenty Downtown. Certainly not the ritziest but more than acceptable.

I know people who have stayed at the Alexis for around that much and enjoyed it. I've also heard decent things about the Arctic Club.

No personal experience at those places as I tend to stay with family when back in town. Though usually if I'm just in for a night I'll stay at the Westin. Any more than a night or so and I'll stay in the cheapest place I can find

 

The Hotel Sorrento is close enough to downtown to be considered downtown. It's one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at, and you can get in for starting at $130/night or so.

 

I did a bit of research when I was going. I don't know if you put much stock in the AAA diamond ratings but the Arctic Club, Sorrento, and Alexis are all 4 Diamonds which means it's going to be pretty nice. The only 5 diamond in Seattle is the Fairmont Olympic but if I remember right you're looking more at like $200 a night.

Hi guys. I know, it's an old thread, but this seemed the best place. Got a question about finding a place to watch a very early morning EPL match. Is the 5 Points Cafe pretty much my only option other than my hotel room for a 4:45am kick?

 

Probably there or 13 Coins. Not a lot of places open at that time of day in Seattle.

 

The 5 point is a fun place, but I have never really watched sports there. I'd call ahead to ask. Of course it has been a few years since I've lived in Seattle. Maybe it's a thing now.

 

5 Point has TV, at least - I don't remember TVs in 13 Coins. They're a friendly bunch, I'm sure they'd put the match on as long as you're cool about it - not like there's going to be anything else on at that hour. (N.B. no booze before 6am.)

 

Yeah I don't even know if 13 coins has TVs, I just know it is open all night.
