one of my cousins has 7 bars in Barranquilla and think he isn’t even 30. Yea hustling and being rich there seems much easier

I am pretty high position in a fortune 10 company and can’t just go on trips to Europe for the weekend like some of my cousins who are just seniors at Ey/kpmg

I don’t go for long weekends to party in Miami

Having an awesome week in Bogota and surroundings. They have really improved the museums and touristy areas.

    fking customs took 1.5 hours

Food here near the hotels is expensive and not that great.

beach is great we are spending 4 days here 2 in Barranquilla and 4 in Medellin with the family.

so yea if you were born in Colombia get a passport

I told you that was the law. Beaches in Cartagena suck go to playa Blanca or Islas de Rosario. Do not let anyone get a massage.

Rionegro, itagui, Guatapé, Peñol and envigado were real nice….

wasn’t a huge fan of Medellin. They need to get a handle of that hooker/homeless situation. The pobaldo part was nicer

no :) but the crack heads are much worse.

the amount of homeless people next to a giant church asking for money for the poor is pretty fking sickening

Would be harder in Colombia but in the US we should start taxing the shit out churches

That's BS. Taxes is how you pay for stuff like roads, schools, the army, the police, healthcare, courts, etc. You might disagree what things we should or should not pay, or how much you want to pay, but every civilization that reaches a certain degree of complexity pays taxes.

If you don't want taxes, you may have to move to an isolated community, and funny thing, those libertarian communities almost never end up well.

we paid over 70k in taxes from our W2s last year and still owed a ton of money. I was super pissed. but yea... really like that police officers exist so no one steals one of my kids tho

actually feel we should be taxed more and our infrastructure was better. but yea its annoying our tax money goes to tanks we dont need

We should tax billionaries out of existence. Once you reach a billion net worth, the value over it goes to combat hunger and climate change world wide. But I'm a nice person, and I propose the creation of the Capitalism Hall of Fame, where we will place a statue of each billionaire, with all of their achievements.

yea I felt especially lucky when I was in Colombia. Like opportunity is everything and where your born and to what family. It's like I could be one of those dudes hustling 3k peso because no opportunity or I had to start working early to help support the family.

issue with your idea is the money will just get stolen or used for something stupid. Or worst some people are parasites that dont want to work and want hand outs. I dont want to give my tax money to people who have been part of the social services system for generations. At some point 1 of those fkrs needs to work.

Why dont they have trash cans and recycling bins on every street? I saw so many signs to recylce in Colombia and no fking recycling bins. Charge a fee like they do in the US to get people to do it. When I was in barranquilla heard they lost out on the pan American games or something like that because the goverement didnt send out a check. They were given more time and still didnt do it. So Barranquilla lost out on a ton of money.

I mean barranquilla and Medellin to me are crazy experiences they are like the hunger games. You live in district 1 or District 13 that was nuked. Soledad sorry if anyone is from there is district 13. My cousin lives in a high rise he told me was 500k has 6 fking bathrooms and 4 bedrooms. A bunch of building like that in the area. My dad told me he had a nicer place in a even better part of barranquilla but had to move during covid since he owned a few restaurants.

It's just insane the wealth gap from just a few streets in Colombia. Fine Brooklyn is way nicer than the Bronx but not to the insane levels I noticed in Colombia . the area a few blocks from the plaza de botero looked like a war zone.

Yeah, because no billionaire has ever wasted like 50 billion to buy an overvalued app and burnt it into the ground. Or use their wealth to influence elections or supreme court judges.

That's the central thesis of Reaganism, that everyone needs to get up from their bootstraps right? Like living on minimum wage that has not changed in 40 years you're going to find a way to be the next Bezos, who pays no income tax and has a 600 ft yatch. Then you write the things below:

Most of the economical outcome of a person is determined by birth in most societies, and while there are exceptions, social mobility is as rule very low, and funnily enough, it is getting worse in the US. You notice the inequality in Colombia a lot more, because of the extreme poverty, but the US is also a very unequal place:
