It would make some sense to let a game like this be hosted by an area that rarely or never gets a U.S. game. But it also make sense that Red Bull Arena is getting a U.S. game sometime and this seems to be a decent time/matchup for it. If the opponent were a bigger name or a knockout Gold Cup game, the game would go to the Meadowlands. If it were a more important game where the U.S. needed a better home field advantage, then the NY metro area would probably not get the game. Its good to reward the owners of Red Bull Arena and the city of Harrison, NJ for forking over some big bucks to help get the stadium and surrounding area up/improved.
Announced attendance was 20,707, but around 2,500 were comp tickets and of the 17k sold, not all of them actually showed, plus you have the RBA feature that- like a Dodgers game- all fans don't make it to their seats until like the 25th minute. So, figure like 14-16k of actual people there.
