Media/Agents linking us with; Edouard MENDY of Chelsea to replace Lloris. (The Sun) Harry MAGUIRE, because clearly we need someone to make Eric DIER look good/worth a 3yr contract extension. (Football Transfers)
We need a massive cleansing of the squad, the players have basically given up and that cannot be tolerated. The first problem I see is this leadership group that we have. Dier, Lloris, Kane and I believe Hojbjerg are part of it. This is the group that meets with Levy and gets our managers sacked. Among Levy's many poor qualities as a chairman, one of them is that he coddles and protects the players. Three of the players in this group are no good and should be punted out of the club. And then this group should be abolished altogether.
I agree. With Kane as good as gone, the other three aren't up to the task. Højbjerg is basically a slightly better Freund, Lloris is old, and Dier is just not good enough. He's an English Sanchez. There's a general malaise around the club which makes players become mediocre when they join and then winners when they leave.
If we don't get the right manager and ins and outs, we could easily do a Leicester or an Everton, especially if Kane leaves. I genuinely fear for the club with Levy in charge.
Yes, those 3 leaving would do no harm whatsoever. Almost regardless of replacement. Maybe a year or two of midtable mediocrity, like Chelsea this year or United and Arsenal have had in the past, would be a good reset for the atmosphere in the club. Be forced to fight for something rather than feel entitled to a European place. Most other squads in the league manage to show some fight.
You can't take any transfer rumors too seriously until we have a manager and director of football. However I did read that Spurs have reached agreement with Barca for Lenglet, but Lenglet is not approving it until he has a word with the new manager. That one kinda makes sense. It's going to be hard to convince good players to come to a mid table team. If that means more young players and fewer established stars, I'm OK with that.
The defense needs a major overhaul: Dier, Lenglet and Davies are too slow, and Sanchez and Tanganga are no good. Romero and Emerson are the only ones worth keeping. Spence, Udogie, and Rodon returning from loan.
TalkSport foreign correspondent just said that Real Madrid had enquired about a Kane / Hazard trade deal but didn’t know the details .. Bizarre
Ben Davies to be made available for around £15m, which seems rather cheap in today's market. He's actually pretty dependable overall.
I feel like we will have a really poor transfer window. So much to be done, and nobody employed to do the job. Everyone else is getting their business lined up, Levy has his thumb up his ass.
Without a DoF or manager it for sure will. Who’d want to come to club with no European football, with no vision or plan. Dealing with Levy is never fun, but at least with Europe or a decent manager there’s a carrot. Can’t even compete much on wages.
Robert Sanchez of Brighton has been linked as Goalie, he's asked to train away from the first XI. Although he was recently dropped in favour of Steele, so I'm not sure he'd be an upgrade of Lloris tbh.
This window will be more about selling off unwanted players. We need defenders. We're not gonna get hot shots like Gvardiol or Bastoni, but I'm OK with getting younger players eager to play for a big club in the premier league. Hopefully the scouting department has possible players lined up for the new managers to choose from. I wonder if any of our loanees will end up playing for us again. Lo Celso (who I don't really fancy) sems most likely, but he also seems to be the one with most resale value. I wouldn't mind seeing Gil get a chance.
Rodon and Spence had pretty mediocre stints out on loan in France (and when I say 'Mediocre' in regard to Rodon, I'm being kind). When Lesley King first broke into the first team we got Naybet to teach him defending ways and be the wise old head to lead by example. I don't think Rodon or Spence will improve under the tutelage of Sanchez, Dier or even Christian 'I'd like a Red Card please' Romero.
We sure need someone who can coach defense. I don't mean someone who will just bunker in like our last 3 managers, just someone who will teach the guys how to play defense. Leeds had a chance yesterday where their player had a free header right in front of the goal (fortunately he missed). Sanchez and Royal were yards away from him, and neither one was marking someone else. That just shouldn't happen at this level. Nobody's in charge, everyone is just running around. I agree there is no obvious leader in the group we have now.
It's not coaching: most of our defenders are no good. Against a more clinical side, we might have lost that game, our defending was not brilliant.
'But Spurs are expected to take up an option that would automatically transfer Kulusevski onto a long-term contract that has already been agreed.' Evening Standard
The club have already splashed his picture across the promotional material for the summer tour, so that is a tell-tale sign he will be signed permanently.* *Although this is Spurs, so any such comment should be taken with a truckload of salt.
