Dan Ashworth has left the club, bye bye sporting director..... We paid millions for him to leave Newcastle, pissed around and he's gone in 5 months. Well that's gotta say how much of a shitshow we must be behind the scenes.....he didn't face a single transfer window
Sounds like Ashworth wanted either Southgate or Potter badly and was ignored. https://talksport.com/football/2361657/inside-dan-ashworth-man-united-exit/ Glad he was.
Ashworth reported to Berrada. Ashworth was delegated the responsibility for managing the transfer window and all the press releases had his name on supposedly. When it came to appointing a replacement manager that was more Berrada / Brailsford and there are clearly differences of opinion between Berrada and Ashworth. Looks like SJR sided with Berrada. Some speculation that Txiki Begiristain having recently announced he is leaving City might be a target but don't think he is leaving City until June 2025. You would think the club (Ineos) have someone in mind, unless this is just an emotional knee-jerk reaction to how things are going.
Another thing that comes to mind is that Ashworth wanted to implement the Brighton model of having replacements lined up. The club appointing van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake as assistant coaches who looked to be ready made replacements if EtH left, then both of them being sacked too when Amorim came in makes it look like we threw out the Ashworth model. If you bin the model then you kind of have to bin the guy too I guess. Whatever it looks all over the place from Ineos atm. Since they officially came in, they went to great length to get Ashworth, to seek alternatives to EtH, to then u-turn and keep EtH, to ditch EtH staff, to appoint their own staff in Ruud and Hake, to sign some EtH players (De Ligt, Maz), to then throw out EtH, RvN, Hake, Ashworth. All in less than a half a year. What a sh1t show.
So wait they didn't know his philosophies when they paid millions to get him released from Newcastle? And now they can him? Jeez.....
This club deserves a Southgate or Potter if were being honest. We've had LVG and Jose Mourinho. Two of the best managers pre Pep. You think were going to find better? We have players who are right up those guys ally. Potter made Dunk look like something. Southgate rocks with Maguire. Thats our level. We dont deserve the best young managers, we wont back them. This might appear to be an emotional outburst, but think about it. You think Pep would turn this club around?
No, Pep couldn't - and Pep only works with massively talented squads anyway... I think SAF made a deal with the Devil that as long as he was manager, United would be successful. However, once he left, we would never know success again.
I think this whole debacle is clearly a power play between Omar and Ashworth. I suspect they had significant differences of opinion, Omar pulled rank (likely on Amorim) and Ashworth chose to escalate to SJR and Brailsford who sided with Omar. That's my best guess.
Seeing reports that it was that Ashworth wanted an English coach (Southgate) and that he was not in agreement with pursuing Amorim and that Omar took over and handled everything with Amorim and Sporting. Interesting thing is that when Ashworth was on gardening leave, there were a lot of reports out of Newcastle that he was actually not that significant and that others handled the day to day matters etc. I took this as re-writing history / sour grapes, but maybe there was some actual truth to it
This is kind of funny. They spent all that money to get this guy. Money the club barely has. Isn't INEOS on a short-term deal with the Glazers? Better get it together, boys.
To be fair, it is an anti Glazer move. Rather than save money and keep a malcontent on, they cut weight and decided to move forward.
Some further reports from The Athletic on the reasons. Fundamentally seems they were just extremely unimpressed with him. Cough not properly scouted cough https://thepeoplesperson.com/2024/1...ssal-as-man-uniteds-sporting-director-288461/
Is the Dutch Jerome Boateng of Leverkusen on our radar now that we do a 343? He would be great but I believe he is on the same wing as Amad. We need a better LWB cause I am losing faith in Dalot and every one we have tried.
I initially thought you were talking about Jonathan Tah, even tho he isnt dutch, he's closer to Jerome Boateng, than anyone else. We have been linked with Jeremie Frimpong though.
Ineos paid almost £300m to rent the club. Obviously SJR would still have owner ship, but how much is that worth for a club on the decline?
Yeah that's him. I blanked on his name completely. What is sad is I am Ghanian so I know for sure somebody in my family knows someone in his family. I am gonna do 50 push-ups for my sins.
Not sure if there is any merit to this: https://www.instagram.com/p/DDauwmOISzN/?img_index=1&igsh=MTBuajF6MWlwcDc3bw==
I heard he wanted ETH to stay, then helped signed some players whom I personally don't rate that high in De Ligt and Zirkzee, then demanded Southgate or Potter as you said. Now I'm reading he got paid £10m. Surely he was a sleeper agent sent by MBS
Seems this is legit, Athletic reporting on it too: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5986507/2024/12/11/man-united-diego-leon-transfer-talks/
Rashford [and Ultimately Mount] replacements 1. Omar Marmoush 2. Rayan Cherki 3. Desire Doue 4. Matheus Cunha 5. I really wanna put Kvaradona here, but I dunno how realistic that is. Same with Cherki
