there was a recent article on the athletic that discusses the transfer market and mentioned this aspect
Reason I said “in an ideal world” about Cas & Eriksen leaving to make room for somebody is bc I know it wont happen - Eriksen (£150k pw £8m pa) has already said he wont move and unsurprisingly neither will £350k pw £13m pa Cas. Only reason for mentioning Rabiot is only CM I know he is still available on a free and despite issues I have with him he would for sure be an upgrade on either current age Cas or Eriksen. Knee-jerk reaction for sure but I am really hating our midfield depth of Eriksen, Cas, Collyer & Mount. Ugarte / Mainoo / Bruno should be good together but outside of that we are effed. Said last year that Cas & Eriksen are done at this level and Mount has never appealed. I know too soon to say, but an instant judgement suggests Collyer not at this level. Only adding one signing to our biggest problem area of central midfield is going to make this year a hard watch imo.
Ashworth & Berada spoke to bbc (Simon Stone) about transfer plans and strategy this window and how it went. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ckg2pm22lz1o
I trust those 4 against thr newly promoted sides, bournemouth, West Ham, Palace and the like. And low round FA Cup games and the tin pot. Collyer is a future 6 not an 8 but EtH didn't want to throw him in the deep end completely. I can see Collyer playing 6 with Cas playing 8 and Eriksen at 10. I doubt all 3 will play that many games as a unit but EtH should, hopefully, rotate and work them in. EtH being bad at Rotating is my major concern. Oh and injuries.
Rabiot and his agent Mum apparently want €10m pa wage, plus €15m signing on fee plus commission for his Mum. Given he is 30 in April, then unsurprisingly no takers at those terms and reportedly best current offer is Milan at around €5m pa. He would be an interesting signing as a squad player (would rather keep Mainoo as starting 8) as can play a few positions in addition to #8 (LW, #6, emergency LB). But not at anywhere even close to those terms and only on a short term contract. Will be interesting to see how long he holds on for those terms and who eventually takes him and at what terms. Also how they will compare to the €7.5m two year extension he reportedly turned down to stay at Juve.
apparently he turned down Saudi as well. i'd take him but only on a pay as you play 1 year deal no obligation. doubt the mother ever goes for that though
I think his mum issue been stated many times, we don't need any hindrance. Multiple reports ETH like Collyer potential. #mufc's provisional plan is to sign a defender, a midfielder and a winger next summer [@samuelluckhurst]— utdreport (@utdreport) September 9, 2024 #mufc want to sign a specialist left-back next summer [@samuelluckhurst]— utdreport (@utdreport) September 9, 2024
Davies will cost more, wages and transfer. Dorgu I have seen play just once and that that was highlights, so not seen enough to make assertion.
Looks like Martial has signed for AEK Athens for a very small salary. Looks like Rabiot has signed for Olympic Marseille for a small salary too. Him and his Mum really overestimated his worth and burned some far more lucrative and competitive bridges with Juve, Inter, EPL teams and Saudi before being forced to settle. Oeufs sur les visages
Had no idea, he could be a possibility given we would be looking at fullbacks next season. He would still demand high wages and big signing fee but for what it's worth he def worth every penny.
