We have 5 now on the books, no? Yoro, de Ligt, Martinez, Maguire, Evans. I would expect that Maguire would need to be moved on should we bring in Branthwaite.

Meanwhile, according to Sky today: "Sander Berge is missing from Burnley's matchday squad, amid speculation of a potential move to Manchester United"

Lindeloff is still on the books, but hes been touted as definitely going this window.

I agree. For another CB wed need to get rid of Maguire as well.

Maguire and cash from Braithwaite? Why can't we do that?

Wages. I am assuming we gave Yoro some first team guarantees.

I'm not a huge fan of Berge, but given the market for DMs, I'd kind be okay with it for a year. And then go all in for Wharton next summer, who's going to cost $$. Lay that groundwork now.

In the meantime, focus our resources on other areas, possibly even just MF depth.

I wish we could just swap Sancho for Ugarte and just be done with it.

We have supposedly dropped McT price by £5m to £25m.

Presumably we need this or other sale to get Ugarte done at the price PSG are looking for.

Also reported that PSG want Sancho on loan with buy obligation but despite us asking wont reciprocate with same deal structure for Ugarte.

That winner of best youth player award is poisoned chalice. Maybe we can get 10 for him and 20 for McT and afford Ugarte

If we sell Sancho and get a midfielder, this may be one of the best windows in a while.

We waited all summer for the Ineos guys to be locked and loaded for them to just buy a bunch of EtH guys. Lol

this transfer window shows (yet again) the lack of perspective so many people have:

Tim Sherwood said when De Ligt was younger he was a very good player (as if he still isn't young?) and then questioned if he is better than Maguire (what??? even at his worst it's no contest)

then you have this crap about Ugarte being a "failure" at PSG? after one season? ridiculous

Everyone has to have a hot take nowadays. I still don’t want ugarte. Can’t shake the feeling he’s another mount, aka a mistake.

No he isnt, he has a defined position and skillset. I do not care about pure DMs as that would not be my style of play but they add value. Mount is a nothing player that does nothing.

Mount was suppose to be our future 8 to push out Ericksen but he got hurt and Mainoo appeared so now we have a very expensive backup

Even before that Mount is a ineffective 10, he isnt a 8, he isnt a 6, he isnt a hybrid.

He was one of, if not the best, players for Chelsea 20-22 including a season they won the Champions League. I didn't want him when we bought him regardless of that. And I don't want Ugarte now.

We need Ugarte to get the most out of Casi. Buying new Defenders isn't going to mean much if they have no Shield

These swaps never end up happening, but fresh reports today that Ugarte will move to United and that Sancho will to go PSG on a loan with buy obligation

    Suggestions of €60M each

Nobody ever "wants" a DM. Problem is that you do need one.

Casemiro was a DM and with Amrabat seemingly gone is the only one in the squad. However his age and mobility mean he can't really be one in this particular league with the pace and speed of transitions and especially not in a team that wants to play a high line.

If we can't sell him then he is better suited to one of the #8 positions as he has proven more productive when playing further forward than was expected.

Problem is we are stacked with players who can play #8 or #10 - Mainoo who should be our starter 8, Bruno our starter 10, Casemiro, then we have the misfits Mount, Eriksen & McT whatever the hell you consider them. However none of these aside from Mainoo have any mobility or defensive awareness to read the game, block passing lanes, intercept etc.

Collyer can be our youth option there but we need a pro. Amrabat is too slow. Ugarte is the best of the ones we are being linked with as he is busy, great at defending transitions and can pass.

As @Deadtigers says, we can have all the CBs we like, but if we have a porous midfield again that can be just run through we are fu88ed.

Ineos and EtH know this, so if we can't afford Ugarte we will end up with a B or C choice option like Sander Berge.

The Branthwaite rumors don't make sense unless we are planning to use licha at 6.

I cannot see doing that unless it is a backup plan to Ugarte or another 6, but at the prices being quoted for him by Everton it doesn’t really make sense as a backup plan
