Here’s my issues with Brainthwaite…there’s no value there but his level of quality. I’d be fine if JB was a 35-40 mil signing as a depth/swiss knife kind of guy like John O’Shea. But for 60-70 mil it’s just a huge mistake. He’s a slight upgrade on Maguire and a huge downgrade from Varane.

The rumored price for Yoro is 45 mil. The rumored price for Todibo is 35. Yoro might turn us down, but instead of playing hardball and battling with Everton for JB, why not meet the asking price of the other two and be set at CB for a long time? Worst case with Yoro is we let him add a buyout for like 80 mil so if Madrid want him in a few years he can go there and we’ve made a huge profit.

We can't afford him unless we do one weird accounting trick that I keep seeing posted in ads all over the internet.

This is just the usual moving through the gears imo.

Usually 3 choices for each position and positions themselves prioritised. With CB higher than DM & #9.

We have made a bid for preferred CB choice who we all expect we cant afford. So at some point we move on to B and C choice so we can properly move on from CB to execute next position to stay within rules and budget.

Hopefully they dont dwell on and drag out bids for months like the last lot did.

Have you been around for a transfer window before? Haha. We’re going to play hardball with Everton over Branthwaite until a week before the season and this just pay the original asking price. It’s called pulling a Maguire and we invented it.

it's no wonder the club couldn't "find" or identify a "better" manager. they can't even identify good players.

we've managed to pick both the most expensive and least talented defender possible who's proven and accomplished precisely nothing. it's a miracle of incompetence.

and even if it doesn't happen (hopefully) we'll have invested time and resources into this.

    just poor all round

Hopefully, Ineos will switch to alternatives, we shouldn't get bullied for fexking Barnthwaite.

I expect it will take a few summer transfer windows to reset that narrative.

Read De Ligt is available for around £42million, could be an option.

******** no. We don’t need another injury prone player. The guy has barely been healthy since signing for Bayern. I’ll take him for depth on loan but that’s it.

I was talking in my WhatsApp group of man united fans and one guy brought up the fact that we don't have scouts in Latin America and that's why these Spanish clubs keep beating us too a lot of town to players in Argentina and Brazil. I told him we don't have scouts in Africa either. It seems for the longest time United's general policies to wait for a guy to be signed from there and get to Europe usually the mainland and then we sign them. We wait to see how to go on like Holland or Belgium or Portugal one of those non-type 5 leagues. It's going to take a while to repair our scouting department but if we can make the contacts to start getting some of these players and Latin America and Africa before they get to Europe it will be huge for us.

I think the key will be more local. Ashworth and Wilcox will be put a lot of eggs in the English basket, but if we can find a few more Garnachos, I wouldn't say no.

Reported that Liverpool have had a 50m euro (£42m) bid for Yoro turned down.

For sure we dont want to overpay as we usually do, however a good young CB is likely to cost more than the £35m we have offered so far (regardless of options padding).

It's what Ashworth and Wilcox have long done. Chamcws are we'll have a leg up over league rivals when it comes to UK/Irish players.

if this was the 90s or early 2000s then OK.

right now that talent pool isn't good enough and comes at too high a price.

hard pass for me. add one or two but don't have it as the main focus

I agree based on the price concern.

But, you honestly think the talent pool was deeper in the 90s and 2000s than today?

Aside from CB, which seems to something not unique to the UK, the talent pool is equally if not more deep today than anytime in history I think. Certainly the breadth of talent, if not the peak.

As a domestic club, we just have more legitimate competition for the players today.

not necessarily deeper but back then Irish and UK players were among the best in the league back then or higher up on average at minimum and able to compete at the top.

i don't believe that same level of quality is there nowadays regardless so i would still avoid that approach now

Are there any players anyone is particularly excited about? Everyone here seems pretty reserved on their expectations for incomings, but is there one or two players anyone thinks we have to get, like a Nani Anderson Tevez Mascherano type player?

If we could swing Neves from Benfica, I'd be super pumped! But he's too expensive, we'll never get him.
