Sir Bryan might end up being a guaranteed starter if he signs at right back as secondary cover Yes big problem with the cb's. Safer to assume Smalling is finished than trust him. Llorente should have been one of the first nailed down. Grew attached to him, quiet leader, no fuss and tidy enough on the ball.
Total breakdown between Chiesa and Juventus, Motta said he is on the market. If we want and can sign him, time is now to intervene. High chance to be picked up in January by someone else if we don’t act right know.
He was our best CB when playing 3atb and still always reliable in a 4atb formation. So unnecessary to let him go, would've been an easy fix. While I'm definitely pleased by our spending this summer, splashing another 20m on someone like Theate instead of keeping Llorente is just dumb. Our books look good at the moment, why ******** them up again and run into another bad FFP situation in the near future? Would only make sense if they already know that Ndicka will leave in 1-2 years. Rumours about Milan offering Okafor in exchange for Tammy. Would be a good pick up imo as he could be our starting LW and first back-up for Dovbyk too.
Signing Llorente is the exact type of thing that screwed us financially in the first place. The guy is 30 and he was earning 2.5 million a year… Betis gave him a 4 year contract at 3.25 million a year, i’m guessing he was asking for similar from us the last thing we need at this club is another 30+ player on 3 million a year with no resale value… it would’ve just ended up being another Smalling situation why are you crying about Theate? Theate is a good defender, left footed, Serie A experience & an international, Rennes paid 20 mill for him so he has some resale value and he’s only 24 years old are we really gonna cry about signing a good young defender lmao Trust Ghisolfi and De Rossi
I don't have a problem with Theate. If we want another CB his profile makes sense. But it's a position where we didn't need to change anything and with the rumoured numbers it's going to be another 4m + his gross salary (probably another 4-5m) in the books for the next 5 years. If Llorente really asked for 3,25m net and Theate comes in for less than 2m then yeah, it makes more sense. As for the Smalling comparison: unlike Smalling, Llorente didn't miss half the season because of injuries.
I liked Llorente don’t get me wrong but the direction of the club seems to be investing in youth so I don’t think they were ever going to sign him realistically Theate could be a flop but I remember him being very impressive at Bologna and we were linked with him last January so I figure this has been in the works for a long time i trust them not to hand out a big contract to him tbh, with his price tag I doubt he will earn more than 2.5 mill, but we will see!

Of course you cant fill your squad with players in that age range but its a balancing act. I think you can afford to have a couple of players in the squad who you know wont get you resale value but they will give you steady years right now in key areas of the pitch. Llorente with 4 solid years, returns more than enough value in the immediate imo. Considering his flexibility, hes a centre back thats hard to come by for the price and in what should be his prime years. Did it matter if he has no resale value in this context? Bearing in mind Smalling has had injury issues since he was 21, Llorente is much less of a gamble. No problem with the new signing but sometimes I see a lot of unnecessary moving of players about for something new. I'd rather see the actual good players being tied down here for 6-8 years and Roma have more chance of consistency.
Allegedly he still hasn't decided and has been waiting for Premier league or CL team offers which have yet to materialise, however Juve officially excluded him from the team the other day so there's now more pressure on him and he's running out of options I remember when Dybala was intially rumoured to join there was a similar situation where I think he was initially waiting for Inter and Roma were waiting in the background, then Inter decided to sign Lukaku instead which prompted Dybala to accept Roma Perhaps the same will happen with Chiesa... His price has allegedly dropped to 15 million now (and maybe will go lower as the season draws closer), it will be hard to find another player of his quality for that kind of price I don't disagree, it's just from everything DDR has said he doesn't seem like the type of signing they want to go for (young, hungry players whose value will rise) so I don't think it was ever going to happen I trust DDR, I do think if they had managed to shift Smalling or Kumbulla earlier in the summer they would have taken Llorente but sadly it didn't pan out that way Also for me this is another year zero not a continuation of the last project, so it's natural that they will shift a lot of players this summer because of the switch in formation and a desire for faster more technical players (as opposed to Mourinho's desire for experienced and physically imposing players)
If Chiesa crawls back I wouldn’t be offering him the same deal they did a month ago. Roma have lost weeks of preseason with him because he wanted to wait for better options. It’s one thing to wait for someone like Dybala, but Chiesa isn’t that guy. He has very few options right now. It’s only Tottenham who only view him as a back up if they can’t get their other targets.
I don't have anything against Chiesa, all the stuff we hear is just rumours so who knows what he's really thinking or what's going on in the background In Serie A, if you have a chance to take a player like him you have to do it IMO Our big problem last year was creativity and goal scoring when Dybala was injured, with Chiesa and Soule you've got another two players who can create and score goals on their own and that will help us unlock close games. They are both players that want the ball and can hold the ball when we're suffering etc. If the club brings in another winger of quality instead of Chiesa i'm not going to cry though, I just think Chiesa is a guarantee in Serie A and we're taking another one of Juve's best players and weakening a direct rival for CL. He scored 9 goals/3 assists in that awful 'corte musso' 'fino alla fine' Allegri team last season, I think he can go up to 15 goals in an offensive minded team Also, imagine playing against Juve this season with Chiesa, Dybala and Soule on our team!
I think he will choose just because we are perfect to each other. I hope he realize this. Where else he should go to if not Roma? Inter? Napoli? Tottenham? At this moment I have not seen any other club trying so hard as Roma trying to sign him and he will not be able to show his full qualities anywhere except here. He is born to play in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. Yes he can play as second striker but boy is LW and we lack high-class LW. It looks like as if everything going according to ‘our plan’.
I'm not on Instagram so I can't confirm one way or another but supposedly DDR Liked a post of Chiesa training.
The concern with Chiesa should surely be that he has a history of injury and we have a history of injured players. Could be the best attack in Italy if all are available but how often would all be available. And as supporter of Italian NT I guess we could kiss 2026 WC appearance goodbye if he does his ACL during qualifications
DDRs never off instagram liking posts so means little that. Times like that you miss falc. "So what, theyre all our rejects"
Some Juve links for Cristante at the same time the Chiesa to Roma story picks back up. Could see another Spina-Pellegrini type deal to pad the accounting for both sides.
