Olympique de Marseille have announced that Spain legend Andoni Zubizarreta has signed on as the club's sporting director for the next three seasons.

A week after the arrival of new coach Rudi Garcia - itself coming hot on the heels of Frank McCourt's purchase of the club and installation of Jacques-Henri Eyraud as president - Marseille have a new sporting director: Spain and Barcelona legend Andoni Zubizarreta.

"He has always been our priority," McCourt declared. "His arrival is Act II of the project we have put in place since arriving ten days ago. He has the ideal profile for this position; he is a brilliant and accomplished director."

Now 55, Zubizarreta has been extremely active in the football world since hanging up his boots, gaining experience as a sporting director with Athletic Bilbao (2001-2004) before returning to his roots in Catalonia as sporting director at FC Barcelona (July 2010 to January 2015).

Regardless of who the coach and SD are, do we know if McCourt will make funds available for them? That's the key question.: we have a "bare-bones squad". Good enough at this moment to maybe, maaaaaybe finish 8th, tops.

Zubizarreta said hes going to try to learn better French but right now hes communicating with Rudi in Spanish. Rudi speaks Spanish because of his Spanish roots I would assume.

Not yet but they need to start launching players from their youth academy Last night they started Maxime Lopez (18) in the league cup and I read he played well. You need to give him a chance in the league as well. Their lost one of their top prospects to Sevilla last year and now they can keep those players I would assume.

Thats whats the fans are saying online but we'll see. Kondrogbia isnt realistic either considered they want 30m for a guy who's not worth close to that.

Also dont underestimate Frank McCourt. The media and others still seems to be skeptical on him but no one knows for sure what he can and cant do.

75m budget for transfers in Jan. according to L'Equipe. Thats pretty good for a winter transfer window especially for a team that needs lots of help.

Morgan Sanson interest. Watch his match vs PSG. very good talent. Versitle player, playmaker and right winger. Would cost around 10m.

There was no doubt that he would be. This team still needs a lot of work. Needs at least 1 CB maybe 2. Also a LB because Evra isnt going to cut it at his age. Also need a GK. Need to make decisions on wether to sign Gomis, N'Jie, Vanqueur, and Thauvin on permanent. If they sign Gomis on permanent they still need to sign an attacker(Giroud? Gamiero? Mandkuzic? Dzeko?) to compete with him for starting spot. They dont have PSG's cash but they have more cash to spend this summer than the other 18 L1 teams and thats not too bad.

Btw, Griezmann would be an ideal signing. Its a shame only a few clubs will able to afford him.
