Pathetic from Meunier, he is very highly paid and should at the very least offer 100% commitment when on the pitch. Being bored/lack of fans etc are lame excuses for a weak mentality.
I expect if the club signs St Juste then no other defensive signings will be made, unless Meunier leaves. The most recent rumours suggest that RB Salzburg midfielder Enock Mwepu could be a target. Pretty versatile can play CM/DM/AM and even RWB. Compared by some to Moussa Sissoko.
Moussa Sissoko is not very good and not the sort of player we need. He is bad on the ball and not good enough at interceptions to make up for it. I hope the comparison is just lazy journalism.
The Kobel deal is expected to be confirmed next week, so any other GK rumours can probably be discounted at this point. Hakimi could be available for 60m€. If Sancho goes for 90m I wonder if it would be possible to finance that transfer? Would arguably negate the need to directly replace Sancho as Hakimi offers a lot going forward on the right. There is talk of Bayern interest however they will not pay that much.
Would also add that he is notoriously hard to work with. Think that there has been a rift between him and the management in every club he has been. And he would require a substantial transfer budget, something that we cannot afford. Would prefer him any day over Kobel. The latter seems like Burki 2.0. Don't think it would actually be an upgrade over what we have, just a side move. The best news by far is the Dahoud stuff.
Yes it seems we have already signed Kobel and will be selling Burki for around 5 million Euros to Monaco So no point speculating on another GK Now we need to try and get the RB and CDM. I am hearing good news that Dahoud wants to sign a new contract. Bringing back Weigl really does make a lot of sense.
Weigl won’t come back there is no rumour to suggest otherwise. Witsel is training again and the club reportedly plans with him and it seems Mwepu is a target.
They can, but should NOT. Leno is an average goalkeeper with weak mentality. I would prefer Burki over him.
I haven’t seen much of him but apparently Rose liked him from his time as RB Salzburg coach. https://www.laola1.at/de/red/fussba...ortmund-in-der-pole-um-salzburgs-enock-mwepu/
We will see what the club do, but it's great we are looking for CM. We badly need one and a RB now. Witsel is impossible to sell. Sadly we are stuck with him, but he needs to be a million miles away from the starting line up. It's not just firing Favre, but removing Witsel from the team that allowed us to save the season.
Pretty much, we can try and tell him he is not likely to see game time, but it almost certainly won't make a difference. He will run down his contract and leave for a free to get a big pay deal. On another note I hope people saw how Chelsea competed with and were better than City. Then you have to ask yourself in which areas are Chelsea better than us? Better striker? Definitely No Better attacking midfielders/wingers? Definitely not. Better centre backs? Maybe slightly, but nothing in it. Better left back? Different but again not really. Better Gk? Yes by a lot. Better RB? Yes by a lot, Foden ( I know he didn't play on the left, but he has come onnbefore there) destroyed Morey. Better midfield? Yes by a million miles. Dahoud is more than good enough, but he does not have a good enough partner. It's so clear that we need to fix the defensive midfielders and rb spots. Just get it down without fail. Make good signings, hope that Kobel is good and we are as good as any team in the world.
Witsel is not bad if he's paired with 2 attacking mids like Dahoud and Brandt. What's stupid is Favre starting with a midfield of Witsel and Delaney.
Well, let's hope that the Rose-Terzić partnership can somehow bring the best out of Witsel and Meunier.
No Witsel is just awful no matter who he is paired with. He is a fraud of a player. I would rather play Raschl all season than him. All he does is hide in the shadow of a player when we are being pressed or make slow simple passes backwards. Now this might even be forgivable if he was mobile to cover the defense, but he does not. He is genuinely an awful player and has held the team back so much. There's no hope for Witsel he has been a fraud and taking the easy money all his career. Meunier I have little hope for, but we cannot go into the season trusting in him. We need a proper right back. We will destroy our season if we start with Witsel and Meunier.
Witsel has only been useful vs mid to lower tier Bundesliga clubs, anything above that and his deficiencies are laid bare. At least he seems to bring a positive attitude in the dressing room, so maybe have him as the team cheerleader. Outside of football, Witsel's wife sure is tasty looking.
Being popular and nice to everyone in the dressing room is not necessary what is always needed. We need winners and players hungry to succeed. We need players prepared to fight and show hunger for the team. I honestly would much rather give those minutes against the lesser teams to Raschl.
Raschl has been talked about a lot in the German youth threads. I hope Rose starts integrating him into the senior BVB squad come next season.
I'm basing my opinion on the stability we seem to have when Witsel plays. I hate how he is super cautious and slows down play. But if that comes with defensive stability, I'm in! Even if it's just against mid- to low-table teams. We've lost so many points against them. I think between him and a summer vacation refreshed Emre Can we have 2 good defensive midfielders who can rotate with each other --AS LONG AS they are paired with Dahoud and Brandt.
Now, you can always bring in better players. You can always spend more to improve. But with our kind of budget, I would much rather add a right back, add one more player to rotate at center back, and add a good keeper (which apparently they've settled on.) And thennnn, I'd look at DM position. But actually, I'd look for a winger first, even before a DM.
