according to L'Equipe.news,we may hyave to look else where this year

Lyon coach Gerard Houllier has hinted that star midfielder Michael Essien could join Chelsea next season instead of signing for Jose Mourinho's side this season.

Does anyone know definitevely how much longer Essien's contract runs at Lyon? I was under the impression that he has a year left, meaning he would leave next year on a free transfer. Houllier's comment would imply otherwise.

Frustrating silly season, not being critical of Kenyon here, but why is it so difficult to close deals this season? I'm sure Roman wouldnt care about 2-3 extra million pounds, so why weren't the deals with SWP and Eissen be resolved this week? Of course these clubs would overcharge us, but compare to the signings of last two seasons, 20+ Millions each for SWP and Eissen doesnt sound that bad ( point to Drogba  ). Maybe it's just me, but there's a real possibility now that we wont get the 3 new players before the USA trip.. It could be like season 2003, where players arrive just before the transfer window close..

Unfortunately Arsenal now seem to have the cash to buy either SWP or Essien. I don't think either will ultimately move, but if we really want them we need to beat the Arse to the chase.

Well first always feel free to be critical of Keynon, the swarmy bastard. Hard to make sense out of all the gossip but it sounds like Lyon is pushing for 26-30 million quid, which is silly even for us, and my understanding from earlier stories is though Essian has 2-3 years left on his contract he has an absolute right to leave next summer for around a 17 million Euro buyout. Not a huge need so why not wait if Lyon is unreasonable. And if we get Obi we may not even want him next year that much, depending on how fast he continues to improve and work permit issues. Though I like that Essien is begging to come so I hope he gets his wish.

As to SWP, one story is we have a deal and are delaying an announcement to give City time to buy a name on the cheap before people know they got paid well, another is that they are insisting on 25 million GBP. Too expensive but genuine English don't come cheap and I want to sleep indoors :D so please pay it RA. If SWP goes on City's trip Saturday, may be a bad sign.

Or maybe we want niether and are just playing games to keep ManUre or Arse from buying them. Or...

maybe Dave, this is just a saga now.

All the talk seems to be of Essien. Which means...no winger?

I wonder if Dave Kenyon would like to buy some pegs?

Chelsea agree deal with Lassana Diarra from Le Havre

The 20-year-old is to clinch a dream switch to Stamford Bridge and become the second of Jose Mourinho's summer buys.

Le Havre were at pains to point out that Chelsea acted very professionally throughout the negotiations and they are pleased that Diarra is joining the Premiership champions as it represents such a great opportunity for the player.

Number two of the three signings?!? Anyone know anything about him?

Dear god. I can't keep up this summer AT ALL with the transfer rumors.

    Diarra??

Is it just me, or has this been a strange summer all around?

Cool. A signing. Never heard of him. A dm that can also play in defence. Exactly where we needed some extra cover

Still, at least he is French and now we too can celebrate Bastille Day with our Francophile cousins in North London. We have two Frenchies, this lad and Gallas, three if you include Makalele, but then Makalele is as French as Freddy Adu is American. . .

Anyways, how about some width? some girth on the team eh?

Like what we are hearing from Essien:

"One of the greatest clubs in the world want me. How do you want me to refuse this? Had it not been Chelsea, I would probably stay at Lyon.

"I am now confident the issue will be resolved."
