Here are several young(ish) Italians that should be on the move the next couple of weeks, hopefully staying in Serie A: Desplances, Ambrosino, Zanotti, Vergara, Caviglia, & Oristanio.

Other than the obvious players that should be in Serie A, the plan this year should be to fill Serie B with as many youngsters as we can. Let them develop this year and the next, if needed, because there are many foreigners with expiring contract in 2026 and 2027.

 

So Lecce are down to Carmada and Gallo? Disgusting. really need to see them relegated next year.

The situation is dire unless the governement / FIGC steps in. Besides maybe Fiorentina, Bologna and Genoa, for every one italian Milan, Inter, Napoli, Juve, Roma bring in, there are 5 more foreigners who will be bought. The 'Italianization' of Milan yielded just one player, Ricci.. Serie A will easily be under 30% Italian next year.

All you have to do is review the transfer sheets for 2025 for all of Serie A to see the issue for what it is

 

It's systemic there is no way to reverse the trend in a transfer cycle. there are only so many Italians that can even be bought that can help the top teams then when you add in contract status whether they are happy where they are and their profile and whether they fit the fact that Italians are the single most dominant nationality of the league is actually a miracle.

Serie A is for better and worse a fully international league. Only the Premier League and the Serie A could be called truly international leagues. There's nothing you can do to stop it at this point. The players themselves need to go to Portugal Spain Holland Belgium where spots are available to them and maybe comeback when they are developed to the top 8 sides.

The biggest issue for me is that majority of the top under 21 players of the last 5 years have spent far too much time in the Serie B and the level there is simply not high enough so before you know it you are 24 and have no experience playing at a high tempo. These players need to run run run from Serie B unless they are being looked after like a Pio Esposito on loan.

Spain Germany Portugal France do not stop their clubs from scouting and buying players from all over they simple don't have any money to spend on transfer fees from the mid table down. Where in Serie A a newly promoted Sassuolo is taking players from Marsielle.

 

Dani Olmo bit the bullet and went to Croatia to find space. I wouldn't advocate for that though.

I would start with revising the current rule of 25 player roster cap which must include 4 homegrown, 4 italian grown. I would revise to say something like a team can go over the 25 player cap if the additional roster spots are filled with homegrown and italian grown players.

The other thing I would do is doing the 6+5 rule in the Coppa Italia. They've tried implementing the 6-5 rule in Serie A several years back, but it doesn't comply with EU rule. I'm sure they can get away with that rule if they only do it in Coppa Italia.

 

I wonder if some scouts are like "wtf is wrong with serie A clubs they have talent and would rather find players from Zanzibar"

 

There is no way teams like Udinese Lecce Como and probably even Milan are fielding 4 Italians including the BS 3rd keeper who never plays. I wonder if that rule has any enforcement. If it was enforced it needs to be bumped to 8 minimum

 

no the league are run by pussies or (paid off by the clubs) who are scared to do anything relevant and make a real impact and cutdown this crap. One easy solution is bonus points for teams that field a certain number of Italians that can be used to help against being relegated, this wouldn't violate any EU labor laws. For example Empoli who field a decent number of Italians could have stayed up while Lecce got relegated. And if these clubs complain ******** em...relegate, suspend. Bottom line we cant expect these clubs to play fair, patience has run out and drastic changes need to be taken. I would even involve the federal Government at this point.
