    Trains, Carpools, and Utopian Bureaucrats

    When utopians like Edward Bellamy stuck to writing books in the 1800s, it was thought-provoking. When utopians took over nations and slaughtered their residents during the 1900s, it was terrifying. Modern utopians are somewhere in the middle. They continue to dream big about how people should live, work, and travel, and they want to do something about it. They don’t kill us, but instead give us expensive, counterproductive, bureaucratic plans intended to create an infrastructure for a society and culture that doesn’t exist.
