United States WNT Roster GOALKEEPERS (2): Kristine Luckenbill, Hope Solo; DEFENDERS (5): Tina Frimpong, Amy LePeilbet, Kate Markgraf, Heather Mitts, Cat Reddick; MIDFIELDERS (6): Shannon Boxx, Lorrie Fair, Angela Hucles, Lori Lindsey, Leslie Osborne, Aly Wagner; FORWARDS (5): Danielle Fotopoulos, Shannon MacMillan, Tiffeny Milbrett, Abby Wambach, Christie Welsh. ------------------------------------------------------------------- note: slaton's knee must have robbed her of her old speed. even tho she is back playing pro ball overseas, she did not make the final 18. it may be the last time we see/hear about her and a uswnt roster. also take a look at the middies and forwards. where's the breakaway speed? milbrett doesn't have it anymore. where are the skilled wingers to send the crosses in? this appears to be an exercise in seeing if frimpong on the left and mitts (and amy) on the right can get past the defense and send the crosses in. nobody in the midfield can do it - unless lori and leslie (don't know about them) can do it. i know iceland is not top class, but i expect us to struggle.
A lot of it is off playing with the U-21 team. This is a depleted group that has been filled out with a good many who haven't fully broken into the mix. That our U-21s look so strong and includes so many that would normally be listed here (or might in a few years) seems to me to bode well for the future!
A look back at the last meeting: http://www.ibiblio.org/footy/2003/0216_usa_ice_ajm.php It was cold, it was wet, it was dark, and a college girl from North Carolina was kicking ass in the Iceland net.
Thanks for the pix. ... Interesting to see that LaKeysia Beene was in goal. What ever became of her??
Iceland's going to be missing a few players as well (including their fierce keeper). *looks forward to commentator attempts to say 'Sigurdardottir'*
