Does anyone else remember us winning some podunk, off-season, pseudo-cup way, way back in the olden days that was called something like Copa de Los Andes and I'm guessing half by the ill-remembered name and half by the ill-remembered .... uh, memory, that it was played somewhere in South America - perhaps in, I don't know, the Andes. Anyone, anyone? Anyway, I think that cup should get a place of honor on that new banner too.
Yup, sure did. It was on United's tour of Bolivia. The Cup sits in their trophy case and it's a real pretty one too.
They mentioned that at todays ownership press conferance. Ask a DCU historian like Lanky and even he'd have to laugh at that. Many of those shiney bobbles in our cabinet were won in the same year. Still, it's a nice hook to get folks to check out the DCU website.
I stopped by RFK to pick up my prize from the drawing for the Ring today. As I waited, I once again saw the trophies up close and personal. wow... I needed my shades.
Nevertheless, there's one shiny from 2004, and the most recent shiny was won last year. So there is some "breadth" to the tradition, if you will. Besides, we're the only team in the league that could have a banner like this and not get laughed at.
I realize its a banner - But it would be a cool idea to have separate links or tags over each one to explain which each trophy is So what are they all from Left to Right?
Being that nature abhors a vacuum, I would assume that it's being used to store office supplies at this point.
MLS Cup 1996 USOC 1996 MLS Cup 1997 Supporters Shield 1997 CONCACAF Champions Cup 1998 InterAmerican Cup 1998 MLS Cup 1999 Supporters Shield 1999 MLS Cup 2004 Supporters Shield 2006 Three notes: Alpha: Not only are we the only 4 time MLS Cup winner, we are also the only 3 time Supporters Shield winner (once for the Eagles, once for the Barra and once for La Norte ) Segundo: If you click on the trophies, it will take you to the trophy case page. III: Suck it, fatbastard!
Actually, it stores these: They have 11 of them, at last count. Yes, this joke never gets old. Never.
