You guys need a striker. Metros need a defender. Get together. (Petke to NJ for Woly or Magee?) Also, is it impossible (physically) for Nowak to play midfield if/when Convey would leave in August?
Hmmmm- Perhaps the Metros will get what they always wanted, an Italian Hero. Does this trade suggest that maybe, just maybe Roberto Baggio will be starting his second coming after his seria A retirement???
Hey, you guys have made several trades w/Metros over years- that is not such a surprise concept. You need to add an extra scorer- someone who will shoot the ball. Metros have that. They can not simultaneously start Glenn, Taylor, Rey, Magee, and Woly. 2 of those guys are bench fodder. Probably all of those guys are as good as what you current have. Moreno is not exactly the most healthy, and Cerritos- well, let's just say he's been around a while.. Any rational observer would see NJ strength is not their backline. So how do THEY fix that? Petke is from NY...... Pick another team if you like, but I struggle to think of a current MLS team that has more (unused) depth at forward then NY/NJ.
I'd trade Brandon Prideaux to the Metros for a bag of rocks. That's it. 1) Don't want to trade with the Metros. If there's a trade with anybody, it's out of the division. Screw NY. 2) Wayyyyyyyyyyy too early to press the panic button. 3) Nelsen is gone a the end of the month on national team duty. We'll need the depth, then.
I do not think United should consider trading Petke, or any defender for that matter... too important now, especially Petke, who is urgently need onfield. Brandon P. should sit out a few games until he learns not to touch ANYONE in the box! Now, in terms of United's weakness on shot completion, E. Stewart should be traded post haste... for a new hot dog vendor! Seriously... it might show some real bones by Coach to do something if Stewart tries another NFL Field Goal into stands... soccer balls can be kicked low and on target...whether Stewart figures this out before he is replaced by Oscar Meyer is another matter! IntheNet
I'd take that Woly or Taylor for either Petke or Prideaux ANYDAY! Both of those guys are extremely talented forwards and they know how to put the ball in the net. We can afford to get rid of one of our defenders. We still have Stokes who I think should be seeing some time soon anyway. I would love to dump Prideaux on the Metros...
i would take taylor, but thats about it. and i dont know if i would send either petke or prideaux for him. The problem is we have an abundance of forwards. moreno, adu, cerritos, esky, thiago, q1, q2... did i miss anybody? while they are injured we dont want them and nobody else does either. When they are healthy, if they produce then we wont want to get rid of them. If they dont produce then still nobody will want them... so we're pretty much stuck tradeing wise. our hope is for a signee during the season or that one of those injured steps up and plays well soon
Petke stays. Wolyniec breaks his skull trying for a near-post header. Magee cuts his hair and stops looking like a girl. Metro gets swallowed up into the earth. Lather, rinse, repeat.
But that's not going to stop him from acting like one. I don't think Nowak is looking for more parts. And with such a limited number of defenders, I doubt that they'd move one. I think only a catastrophic injury would force United into a roster move.
Guys, Don't feed the trolls. About the only thing I want to trade is jri to the Metros' board for an empty can of Coca-Cola.
Someone just called John Wolyniec a "extremely talented forward" and no one called him on it. I am flumoxed. Shame on you DC United fans.
I'm surprised you guys have so few defenders. Who's decision was that? (to be so unbalanced?) I would convert Gros to a right-back type. He looks like an Albright-experiment to me (athletic guy who can use his speed to diffuse guys) I obviously didn't know Nelsen would be gone on WC duty. Looks like you need to figure out some depth there. You still have a 'quality' problem at forward- I still think you could use one of Metros forwards who can shoot outside the 18...
The sad truth is that Wolyniec, while not "extremely talented" would be a very good fit in DC right now. Think Brian Ching and Landon Donovan. (And don't try to think that DC could have had Ching but opted for Devin Barclay... it just drives you crazy, trust me!) Ching provides a physical presence next to Donovan, wins balls and plays them off to the smaller, faster SJ players, draws defenders and creates space for Donovan, etc... to manuever through. Landon makes Ching look better but Ching also makes Donovan more effective. DC needs some size and someone that can stretch the D, either with pace or by posting up. Wolyniec provides both. He ain't a superstar but he has been capped by the national team and is thought highly of by both Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley - which means Kevin Payne automatically thinks he's good. I also think that while he's close to home in Jersey, he could come be a starter here and that's got to be appealing to a player who is fighting for a spot on the national team. As for what United would give for him, I don't really know but it won't be a defender as they only have five and one of them will be gone for a bit with his national team. They just don't have any depth there to afford to make a trade. And, it won't be a draft pick as the team doesn't have any in the first three rounds next year. Would the Metros trade a forward for one of our excess mids or forwards? Tough to imagine,
There's no point in creating a Wingback when we don't use Wing backs. If that were the case, we would have found a way to keep Reyes by cutting both his and Earnie's salaries
Way too early to start thinking about trades, folks. Give it another month or so. By then, we'll have Q2 and Martins back and begin evaluating our true forward line. We'll also have to deal with Convey coming back from injury and whether or not he goes to Europe. He goes, we get cap space and an allocation that can be used on a forward if need be. If not, we'll have to make due until such time as we can get the player(s) we want.
"Bother us"...lol...you have the choice NOT TO READ IT...so if you are bothered, look in the mirror, bro. You are a poor steward of your own time
OK, so you want to trade, here's our offers: Option 1 Prideaux (starter) for Galvan Rey (not a starter), and Metros absorb the extra salary. Option 2 Eskandarian (starter) for Gaven (starter) and Taylor (starter). If you'll do either of those trades, I'm sure we can make a deal. If you're unhappy about the discrepency of value, then consider these trades equal to the one you suggested ... lopsided. Seriously, why is it that teams always underestimate our players and think they can trade trash to us for quality from us? I mean, we wouldn't go to LA and offer Doug Warren for Carlos Ruiz, or go to New England and offer Brandon Prideaux for Taylor Twellman. So how come other teams think they can get one of our dominant defenders (for whom we traded Eddie Freakin Pope!) for only the price of a journeyman (Wolyniec) or a struggling youngster (Magee) who is similar to the struggling youngster (Eskandarian) that we already have? Be serious if you're talking trade ... these offers are nonsensical. At least throw in an allocation and cap relief ... or something. -Digital
Digital, You should know better than to try and use something as abstract as reason with a Metrodonkeys supporter. That's a borderline call for negative reputation if you keep it up
