And many people ain't gonna like it. For those of you who couldn't stomach the thought of Jolley playing here, may I present: Petke. Ugh. Interestingly, SG mentions nothing of us trading our 1st pick to the metrodonkeys. He also figures that there will be further movement the first deal is cut. And to me, Jolley is the better defender.
Look, there are four dudes on horses riding down my street...Is that a horn I hear? I wonder what that guy in the robe is doing walking on water... And I thought going to war with Iraq was going to get top billings of things that irks revelation! BTW - I am spitting and puking and really looking to beat a particular Geordie upside the head!
Man, if this trade goes through, somepeople at Metro's HQ are gonna have milk coming out of their noses from laughing so hard. Remind me never to take Dave Kaspar car shopping with me.
On the positive side (what little positive there is from trading for Petke): Deal as we were expecting before: Pope Moreno 1st pick for Jolley Allocation 2nd (or 5th) Pick Now we're seeing: Pope Moreno Williams for Petke Allocation 2nd (or 5th) Pick As it stand, on our side of the bargain, we've retracted offering the number one pick and have offered Richie Williams instead. In exchange we'd be receiving Petke instead of Jolley. While I don't especially like Petke (see above) and feel that Jolley is a bit better defender, this is probably a better deal for us. Since we've been somewhat resigned to seeing Pope and Moreno go, now we get to offload Williams and his salary on the Mutts. If we use the first pick on Eskandrian, who signed today for 50k-60k, we've saved 40k-50k on the cap and gotten a player who will likely help us more than Richie could. If we draft someone else, we could save even more. Additionally, now we have two first round, and two second round picks, which can be traded to other cap strapped teams (see Chicago, San Jose) as the draft approaches. This deal would give us maximum flexibility as far as the cap and some draft picks which still may prove trade bait come SuperDraft time. Losing Pope hurts me. Gaining Petke hurts me even more. But, to me, this is still better than what we were hearing last week.
I'm about to lose my dinner. Does anyone else think this is a completely ludicrous trade? I understand that we need to clear cap room, but at the expense of desecrating all that is holy? I am starting to lose faith in anyone associated with this organization. We had better kick a$$ out of the gate next season, or I will be one seriously doubting Thomas. I really don't want Petke on my team. I would almost rather do the trade and let the Metros keep Petke. It was bad enough we were looking at Jolley, now this makes the Jolley deal look too good to be true....which I guess it is. Vomiting with hatred, Andy
hmmm. huh. wow. ugh. Lots of conflicted feelings going on over here. Worst of all, I guess this trade would mean we don't get to do the "Petke is a w***er" cheer anymore? Where's the fun then?
Trading for someone described as "flamboyant" is not a way to get someone who hasn't renewed their season tickets (like me) to jump on board.
I'm pretty sure there's no personal hygiene product that could remove the metrostink from Petke. Blech.
I feel you Andy. The worst part of the trade isn't if it's smart or not smart. Somehow, with Moreno and Pope going to the Metros for Petke. I just seems WRONG. I will go to sleep tonight praying that Petke is the one that becomes trade bait before the draft.
this fills me with the kind of hate i normally reserve for hitler and the people who club baby seals. that allocation better get us one of those kids from Santos. or both. ugh.
Petke????!!!! That is simply grotesque. This is a defender who was beaten like a drum by the Revolution attack in the final game of the season. He is slow, gets caught out of position and loses his composure with alarming regularity. Other than that, he would be a great addition. Yuk.
Actually, if that scummed up excuse for a crappy hack dons the DC United kit, I'll still be singing "Petke is a wanker"! I AM MR. FURIOUS! And will also add "Hudson is a wanker!" and "Kasper is a wanker!" How can there be any "mixed" feelings!? This is on par of replacing St. Peter with Lucifer and saying "Hey Satan, do you mind watching Heaven for me, I've got some urgent business in another universe to occupy my full attention?"
Well, I"d prefer Jolley to Petke. That being said, we can't improve unless we dump cap commitments. This trade does that. AND, it allows us to keep our #1 pick, gain a #1 pick, and gain an allocation. The allocation is key. I think Earnie Stewart coming to MLS is about 90%. I think Joe Max Moore coming to MLS is probably 50-60%. I think there are a couple of teams that could be FORCED by the league to deal with us for an allocation (so having two of the suckers is a big plus). Especially since those two teams would likely be New England and Dallas (lots of young cheap Americans on both rosters I wouldn't mind picking). As it stands, this superdraft is supposed to be much better than last year's and we'll have more high selections. And, we'll be in a position to possibly spend 2 allocations (plus discoveries) at a time when there are a lot of free transfers. We need a finisher and a D-mid who can organize and direct things. We'll have the cap room to spend 2 maximum salaries on those positions. Also, while I"m not a big fan of playing Ryan Nelsen at D-mid, if Hudson is thinking of doing so, then acquiring Petke makes sense. If not, the guy we're trading for (Petke or Jolley) starts out on the bench anyway. Look, I don't like dealing for Petke either. But the alternative is to create the cap room by cutting people outright (and getting no draft pick, no allocation).
This is the best part of the deal. Before we kept Williams and his salary and gave away our #1 pick. Now the Metros are getting Williams and giving us THEIR number one pick.
It all comes down to the allocations and how the draft picks pan out. Moreno is toast -- even if he has a good year or two the league caught up with him. Pope will miss a lot of games even if healthy (though it kills me to see him go). But if Hudson's got a Pineda-Chacon and Bishop lined up to go with a couple guys who can step in like Suarez or Twellman we're a better team.
This is just ugly. In fact, this is beyond ugly. I'm starting to think that the price of luring Bradley out of Chicago is that he gets to build a stacked team in NJ. That's the only logical answer; I can't imagine anyone at DCU would be dumb enough to make this trade without a gun pointed at his head.
