Trade upcoming No name yet, but could become official as early as today. http://www.metrofanatic.com/mf/story.jsp?ID=1680 Edit: Vaca.
I'm not holding my breath, but I'd like it to be Brian Mullan. But I think he's right sided and we need a left side player.
I believe that SJ is one over the roster limit so I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade someone instead of cut or waive. On the other hand, these names also popped into my head: Chris Albright (isn't he still not signed with LA?) Chris Carrieri Bobby Rhine Cobi Jones (that would be a shock, but if there is ANY team he'd leave LA for, it'd be NY) Sasha Victorine I can't think of too many in SJ that are mid/forwards. It's a stretch to call DeRosario, Ching or Faria mids.
The only people on MLSNet who are listed as starting Western Conference Mid / Forwards are Jamil Walker and John Spencer, neither of whom are likely to be traded for a pick. Albright is as good a guess as any. I'd hate for him to be a starter but he could contribute in spots.
Team by Team Who Can It Be? Colorado: I really think we could be looking at Chris Carrieri, given his deteriorating relationship with Hankinson. This kid has a huge ego, but scores some nice goals...other possibilities include Mark Chung and Chris Henderson, who are both a little long in the tooth, but can still play. Maybe Metrofanatic screwed it up and we're just getting Wes Hart, who could play ahead of Leitch and Ziadie. Dallas: Could it be Jason Kreis? We can afford his big salary. Kansas City: Josh Wolff has ties to Bradley. Chris Klein is probably a pipe dream. Maybe we're looking at someone like Francisco Gomez or Jose Burciaga. Los Angeles: Chris Albright is not a bad guess, but I have a strong suspicion that we're looking at Sasha Victorine here. San Jose: Brian Mullan (doubtful given the season he had). My best guess is Ramiro Corrales, who would be back for a second tour with us. And the winner is!!! Sasha Victorine.
Don't forget KC: Josh Wolff, Igor, Wolde Harris, ...... Preki, Klein, Zvagnin, They may be looking to offload Josh Wolff's salary, or Wolde Harris now that Josh Wolff is healthy again.
I can't say im too excited about this proposed trade. I can't see a team giving up any good players straight up for a draft pick. Especially since we don't have any high draft picks.
As for the Wizards, I would hope that the only way you get Klein is by giving up Clark (I know, won't happen). I wouldn't be shocked if it were Wolff, but I wouldn't expect it. Harris seems the most likely with Simutenkov re-signing, and Matt Taylor now in the fold as a potential target forward.
I know Metro have always had their eyes on Vaca, and that he's young (21) and talented is not a question, but doesn't he basically play the same position as Guevara? We really need help out wide and up front, and from all I've seen of him, Vaca tends to play more centrally and behind the forwards. Can any Dallas fans shed some more light?
I think vaca would be a good pickup,,, he has been playing out on the right, waiting for his chance in the middle behind paraja i believe. It will be interesting to see if he continues to play wide right for us.
Central mid is his spot. He really is a classic #10 type. Just get him the ball and give me 2 guys behind him to play defense for him and let him do his thing. Burn haven't played that way, so he really hasn't ever fit in. Ya'll seem to be setting up to go 3-5-2, so I expect he'll be do well. Burn have also used him as wide midfielder on occassion. His skills allow him to be useful out there. (he does cross well), but the defender playing behind him better stay at home, because Joselito won't be getting back in time to help on a counter. He's SLOW, and kinda small. Can certainly be bodied off the ball. Great ball skills. Good dribbler. Sees the field well. Passes well. Shoots ok. Not much on defense. Is in the last year of his contract. Can dissapear from games at times.
I like this, though I've always thought highly of Vaca. He's young, hasn't lived up to the full hype but still has potential, and can play wide. And we're getting him for nothing. I'll gladly take that chance.
where does he fit though...we clearly need help on the wings, but the consensus seems to be that he's slower than not and is more of a central midfielder...very interesting..
What's his status? Sr. International or Transitional International (under 23)? I wonder if Edgar will still be around by the time the season starts. Also, what's the deal with Moreno. It sounds like D.C. wants him?
I see a midfield of Vaca, Guevara, Gaven and Clark being extremely dynamic. I don't look for any of them - Gaven and Vaca in particular - to stick to one side all the time, but to switch back and forth a lot, and to move from the wings to the center and back - they all have the capability to do so. If this unit can click more than last year's version did (and a lot of that was predicated on Mathis and Guevara never getting in sync with each other), then it has the potential to give defenses around the league fits. With this four, plus Lisi, I'd say we've got as much skill in the midfield as any team in the league. Think we could end up seeing a box midfield like this? Gaven Vaca Guevara Clark
