According to this (from fotmob - comparision with other players who play a similar position), he shoots and scores a lot but doesn't get on the ball much, nor win aerials nor play defense. He's right-footed but looks like he's comfortable finishing with his left. He's 5'11".

Ceiling would be Wondo 2.0. Floor would be Mark Sherrod.

Apparently he did that MPG thing - took his shirt off on a yellow and got tossed. But it was after scoring a late winning goal, and I'm not sure the next game was consequential for them.

This part should be fixable by Bruce.

Watching his highlights I didn't get the sense that he has good speed necessarily but OTOH it didn't look bad either. But Judd's value on defense is that he presses hard and with pace. He's gotta be one of the best pressing forwards in MLS.

He can share the socks with Judd. Both of them only wear half of them.

Will he fare better than the other Golden Boot signings in the past like Magnus and Pellegrino?

There should be some good Balkan Boyz banter between Luka and Benji. Intriguing signing, I like it.

Listening to him talk, he sounds like straight-up Aussie. No more Balkan than Nick Fernandez sounds Peruvian :).

He's gonna be our Joveljić lite.

Yeah but a lot of these Balkan diaspora guys really feel their homeland at the core. I mean there is the Aussie-born Croatian NT legend Joe Simunic: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/8L0yuUqGZVk

He sounded so Australian that the ref in the 2006 World Cup match between Croatia-Australia match got mixed up and gave him 3 yellow cards in the same game because his accent confused him lol.

This is now confirmed. The press release actually has quotes about each player from Bruce and from each player. Glad to see that Bruce considers Jamar to be the left back. I don't want to see Costa come in and start for him. Jamar is fine as left wing too, but his speed is really useful on defense, and we've got Timo and DJ to play left wing.

I think this is going to be it for this season. Swapping out our GK, to questionable effect when we had one of the best keepers in the league, and striker depth, which was needed, but not likely to make our starting lineup better / different.

I think Luka’s gonna turn out to be a kind of Danny Musovski kind of player - a good finisher but doesn’t necessarily bring a whole lot else, but you need good finishers…

Wasn't someone saying early in the World Cup that the Australian league was the place to cherry pick talent because they play a similar physical style as MLS? This kid led their league in goals at age 21 and scored a goal every other game as a U20 international. I expect him to be more impactful in MLS than Griezeman over the long haul — in part because he will have a long haul.

Fair point. If he turns out to be a Danny Musovski kind of player that’s not bad at all. Of course we could have also just kept Danny Musovski. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Forward depth solves a need for us. Swapping our GK’s from one of the best in MLS to a question mark, not so much. I think the ceiling is that he turns out to be as effective as Daniel. And it’s downhill from there.

I expect we’ll be seeing Jovanovic loaned out to a ULS side until and unless Judd goes down and we recall him. Pretty lame transfer window - if this is it. A replacement for a keeper we neither wanted nor needed and a crapshoot young striker.

Like banter about the genocide Serb forces conducted against the Bosnians in Srebrenica during the Balkan Wars?

    These kids weren't born yet.

BTW, met a young Serbian visiting from Serbia at San Pedro Square viewing parties. He was rooting for Bosnia. And he was fascinated to learn that the Quakes' founder was Milan Mandaric, whom he knew of from Mandaric's time in England.

I don’t think he’d be loaned out because we want someone to take some minutes at the end of matches during some weeks. We’ve seen a very tired Judd in the 80th minute.
And U22 initiative is low risk with a potentially good reward.
Also he’s not likely to disrupt this team’s chemistry.

If the Quakes are done for the transfer window, I agree it’s not enough. But U22 signing rewards Judd for the breakout season because he continues as the go to 9 and simultaneously can protect him from being run into the ground.

The keeper issue is harder to figure out.

Yeah, I expect Luka to be on the bench regularly and to come in as a late sub, at least in some games. We may even go to a 2-forward setup if we need a goal.

Not that kind, I think their generation born abroad generally get along great with one another regardless of being Serb or Bosniak or Croat or whatnot. I remember during the NBA COVID bubble all of the Serbo-Croatian speaking players (Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Montenegrins, Slovenes) in the tournament had a big dinner together. I just mean stuff like yelling curse words to each other during practice and stuff.
