Just looked him up and Rune Paeshuyse is 22, that is younger than Tanner Beason (27) and even Daneil Munie (24)... in fact he's closest in age to Casey Walls (21) who they were probably expecting to be much further along in his development when they signed him as a homegrown. The San Jose Earthquakes are nearing the signing of Rune Paeshuyse from KAS Eupen. The 22-year-old Belgian center back is also wanted by Beerschot, but SJ is much further along in negotiations. Paeshuyse has appeared 59 times for the Belgian side. (@gva) #Quakes74 pic.twitter.com/ON43fgDp52— Cam Pellegrino (@cam_pellegrino) August 13, 2024
I had to look up KAS Eupen. Good new is he played in the top league of Belgium. The bad news is that they were in the bottom four of the league (15 of 18). He played on a team that -35 goal differential. So, he should fit right in with the Quakes!
This is another case where Leitch and the Quakes front office just don't get the level of MLS... it would be one thing if he was at one of the top Belgian teams, but the relegation level teams in leagues like Belgium / Netherlands / Portugal are below MLS level, yes even the Quakes, because MLS has much more parity. It's all just probabilities so this guy could still work out, but we certainly shouldn't count on it. Maybe they see something in him and think they can develop him into a top CB... also he can also play RB so that may factor into it. By the way Eupen is where Gaga Slonina was on loan last season from Chelsea...

There is no such thing as a bad dad joke. Or put another way, the more bad they are, the better they are.
Is this our strategy? We go for top scorer on top teams in arguably lesser leagues. See Magnus and Pelle. Then we go for defenders from bottom teams in arguably better leagues. See Akapo and possibly Runne.
According to this source, an offer of $1.5M for given to La Liga club CA Osasuna for left winger José Arnaiz and it was rejected. I have not confirmed this rumor or player, so take it with a grain of salt.Transfermarkt claims a market value of $2M. #Quakes74 https://t.co/cx0TknoSCF— JMoore Quakes (@JmooreQuakes) August 14, 2024
Well, this doesn't look too inspiring, especially the 1% in progressive passes, the 16% in progressive carries, and the 26% in successful take-ons.
Well that's in La Liga which is obviously a much better league than MLS... also $1.5 million is like nothing these days, isn't that how much Almeyda wanted to pay us for Kikanovic?
Not sure I believe the Almeyda-Kikanovic rumor. Also, Arnaiz has played mostly 2nd division the last 5 years, with Leganés (until going to Osasuna last year). That said, I'm sure he'd be an upgrade for us. He's a righty that can cross with his left, i.e. he is not another one-footed wonder.
OK so maybe we don’t sign anyone in the summer transfer window but OTOH looks like we may have tried!
I don't know José Arnaiz nor do I follow Osasuna. Looking at their records or placements, they are a somewhat average club in La Liga, Even then though, $1.5M may seem a lot to many MLS clubs, it's less than average for most La Liga teams. If the player is that good, they are probably seeking to profit from his potential sale.
I don't think he's that good and he's almost 30. I don't think any kind of significant sell-on % is going to be a thing.
If you followed Gaga Slonina last year, you know just how bad Eupen were. In defense of Leitch here, he probably has no choice but to shop in the bargain bin.
