Yes but it would have to be a significant signing to make a difference to STH I think and not sure we have the budget for that. But I’m speculating about reasons they may do nothing, not advocating for that. Really they should always trying to improve the product even for the lame duck remainder of the regular season, because we’re still going to the games and we want to see wins. And that of course can affect future purchase decisions.
Rune Paeshuyse is a CB/RB from Belgium. Rune Paeshuyse is a midfielder who played for Orlando and LAFC.
Jhegson Mendez in your 2nd sentence. Looks like he played about half of the time for Orlando and barely played for LAFC, and really has barely played in the last 3 years or so. He seems to be primarily a d-mid. These look like depth moves, nothing to really move the needle. I mean if Jhegson can replace Baldi on the bench as d-mid depth I suppose that's a small win. Or actually if he looks pretty good for us, we could dump Gruezo next year and free up a DP slot and give Gruezo's countryman Mendez the majority of d-mid minutes?
Mendez is Gruezo just more hackish tendencies. He goes in over exaggerated a lot. Better with the ball at his feet though.
The Quakes networking channel for scouting set up is too hard into South America, and Latin countries. We need to set up shop with scouts with expertise in the Oceania and Southern European countries. Possibly dab into Ghana as well. 4 or 5 years ago Red Bull had a guy named Success Cudjoe who came over around the same time as Latief Blessing. Success had visa issues so he was never signed to an MLS club after time with Crew, Red Bull and Reno 1868. So talent is out there.
I’m thinking mainly about the state of the economy in Argentina. For Brazilians to a lesser extent I guess. But their wages may be worth 2-3x in Brazil.
Jhegson Méndez... Are we swapping out one late 20s Ecuadorian defensive midfielder with previous MLS experience for another?
That would be fine if we get comparable play while freeing up a DP slot. A much lesser win would be that we upgrade Baldi for d-mid depth. But is this guy any good? He’s barely played the last 3 years or so.
20 games played over 3 years (avg 7 per year) is.... not ideal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jhegson_Méndez
Here is the #Quakes74 DM rumor for anyone who hasn't seen it yet through various channels.Jhegson Méndez played for Orlando City (72 app) and LAFC (9 app) between 2019 and 2022. He's currently with São Paulo in Brazil and was on loan to Elche (2nd division in Spain). https://t.co/hFZ0tDVL7V— JMoore Quakes (@JmooreQuakes) August 13, 2024

I don't know, our CB's are playing pretty well right now. Not sure I'd want to risk Rune'ing the chemistry.
