I listed 2 realities: 1) cap space, 2) FishBudget. If we enter an alternate reality where Fish is happy to spend another $10M on salary this year we could make say 2 impact U22 signings for a cap hit of $150-200k each. It's important to keep these 2 realities in mind: cap space, and FishBudget. You have to understand both because they both affect what you can and cannot do to improve your roster.

Hernán is a different kind of player. I stand by my statement about Puig. Maybe I exaggerated on the goals but Puig would definitely make us significantly better. How productive would Pec or Painstil be w/o Puig and the other outside attacker, and heck without Joveljic to boot. Put mediocre players in those roles, and then drop in just one of Pec or Paintsil and I think they'd have much less success. Or put another way, drop Pec or Paintsil on the Quakes and they'd probably have half as many goals if they're lucky.

the problem is ownership. nothing changes in San Jose as long as he's here. Quakes are on the same path as the A's. and its very unlikely Fisher sells the team to someone who wants to build a competitive team in SJ. so, we either keep going like this until we have about 10 fans showing up on gameday, or he sells the team to someone in another town, or moves the team to Vegas or someplace, and stays on as owner.

but yeah, in a fantasy world Fisher would hire a competent, capable GM & President who would shake things up and change the culture.

I'm with you he'd make us better. We still have very incompetent not MLS level forwards in Preston Judd, Jeremy Ebobisse and Oousseni Bouda

yes, there are ways that the Quakes could make moves, that's the point.

we all know nothing's going to happen. but that's not because it's impossible and all the excuses you made, which started this round of, "why do the Quakes suck so much and what could they possibly do about that, in a fantasy world where they gave a shit?"

Realistic. We've been watching this sad story together for 16 years. And we're watching what's happening with the A's.

I never said it's impossible. That's why I've made several posts about the prospects of U22. Are you reading this thread? I include FishBudget as a reality that we're living in. Could it one day become a new much larger budget? Sure! But that's not our reality, and you apparently agree. Glad we're on the same page!

I've enjoyed quite a large majority of our seasons for various reasons. The only season's I truly haven't enjoyed 2009, 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2024.

Maybe in some weird way, and after 16 years of me telling you that Fisher is the problem (to which you've invariably responded with plot graphs and charts claiming Fisher spends enough money and there's no correlation between spending and success and you have to have the smarts, etc), we finally agree.

It's not that it can't be done. It's Fisher, it's a matter of will.

I enjoyed 2012 and some of the Matias games, but that's about it. Mostly its been one long shitshow.

I've been consistent with my point of view. Yes, it would be easier if Fish spent more money, but the reality is that there are teams that spend the same or less than us every year and do quite well. And yes, we are still waiting to see definitive data that points follow spending in MLS.

The fact of the matter is we haven't done nearly well enough with the money we've already spent on the roster. That's the biggest problem. And now we're in a corner where the only way out is to spend a lot more money.

2017 was better than any of Matias's years. We were 10-2-5 at home, semfinals in USOC, and made the playoffs on a great goal on literally the last play of the game that was probably the most exciting moment in PPP history. Thanks, Chris (both Chris's)! And thanks, Dom!

That's a very low bar for a stadium that has yet to host a playoff game since it opened in 2015. I thought the Alashe goal (in the inaugural game) was the most exciting moment. Packed house, waitlist for season tickets...the promise of (finally!) investing in a competitive roster...

    ...and here we are. :(

A last play of the game goal to make the playoffs is the most exciting to me by far, but your mileage may vary.

You did not enjoy 2010? We were 1 own goal away from MLS Cup.

We were very stout that year.

2013 we had an amazing run like 2012 once we fired Frank Yallop. Mark Watson had us 11-5-3 and playing better soccer then 2012's run.

Chris Leitch had us playing some decent soccer as well when he took the interim job. Covello I hated so much, still had us playing a few very attractive games. Kinnear was pretty boring, but we weren't being blown out of the water.

I'll take your word for it. To me it looks like 16 years of crap with the rare & fleeting, "whoa, how unQuakeslike!", followed by quick return to regularly scheduled programming.

The A’s are not moving because they suck, or even because of Fisher, they’re moving because MLB wants them to move. If MLB didn’t want it, they wouldn’t be moving.

Took the Bills 16 years to host a playoff game in their current stadium.

If he wanted to keep the team, MLS told him he had to move them to Vegas. Really.
