Man that would be brutal if NER swooped in at the last minute or something and out-bid us, and we wind up with Zian Flemming in July, or someone like that.
That tweet (the one from the screenshot that says it's New England) has since been deleted, probably someone who is not too familiar with MLS and just wrote the wrong team name. I think we can confidently say it's either San Jose or no move at all.
This guy could be terrific in Ian Russell’s system if Luchi gets fired. I recall the one guy that made Reno really dangerous was Ex-Quake Lindo Mfeka. He was considered too small for MLS but he rocked at Reno and killed teams up the middle. He’s still playing in USL for the Oakland Roots.
Jamon Moore says on Reddit that the deal’s not happening until (Humphrey) Bogert says it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mfeka, Richards, Hoppenot, and Hertzog should have been Quakes instead of Wehan, Calvillo, Partida, and Others
Yes, so many questions raised by this big blockbuster Quakes signing, like (a) did Leitch get it all done before the window closed? (b) why is it being discussed as a done deal all over the Argentine sporting press and yet there's no mention of it in the US sporting press? (c) are the Quakes working on the press release as we speak, trying to get maximum marketing bang for what would be the biggest news in San Jose Earthquakes history since the signing of George Best? Very odd that we're hearing nothing from San Jose while in Argentina the sports media is buzzing with news of this big deal. Hernán López Muñoz's transfer to San Jose Earthquakes, for $7 million, sparks discussions about his potential and the financial impacts on the involved clubs. #Quakes74https://t.co/NML5QX1TKI— MLS Multiplex (@MLSMultiplex) April 24, 2024 Hernán López Muñoz in MLS (mlsmultiplex.com) The recent news of Hernán López Muñoz's arrival at the San Jose Earthquakes involving a considerable sum of $7 million not only illustrates the growing reach of South American soccer but also ignites debates about the true value of the player and the financial impact on the Argentine clubs involved...
I really have my fingers crossed on this one. He seems exactly like the player we've been hoping the team would splash some cash on. A really interesting comparison is the #2 most comparable player on Fbref, Santiago Rodriguez at NYCFC, and the similarities are really something. (Interestingly, Espinoza is his 9th closest comp) Santi Rodriguez is 5'8" tall advanced playmaker signed by NYCFC from Uruguay for $5 million euros. (Hernan is 5'7") Both excel at advancing the ball through passing and dribbles, while not being high big goal scorers. It looks like Hernan could be a little unlucky as his XA was quite a bit higher than actual assists. The big difference is in defensive actions. Just glancing at recent matches on fotmob, Godoy Cruz plays a 4-2-3-1 with Hernan in the 10 spot, and they rack up some high possession stats and a high volume of passing. In that light, I'm not sure what to make of Hernan's pass completion rate.
So did this move go through yesterday or not? I don't expect the Quakes to announce it yet, but surely those with contacts within the organization, from Tom Bogert to some of the Epicenter guys, to half a dozen people here, can find out one way or the other...
The news usually travels like this: foreign press -> Humphrey Bogert -> Quakes press release We must wait for "The Bogert" to bless the story!
The Quakes could use a left winger / forward... why not our very own Messi? "Due to his style of play and stature, he was dubbed "the Spanish Messi" by the media." We haven't had one of those since the Albanian Messi, Jahmir Hyka! Iker Muniain will leave #AthleticClub FREE in the middle of the year. After 15 seasons at the club, the 31-year-old winger will look for a change of scenery and that is when the MLS appears as a possible destination.
Don't mess this up, Tom! Quakes fans have been waiting for news of a legitimate attacking midfielder for a very long time.
According to the Tom, "it looks like they got it over the line"... "As the deadline closed, reports swirled that the club had secured the signing of Hernán López Muñoz from Godoy Cruz, a No. 10 who would be a designated player. Though there’s still no official announcement, it looks like they got it over the line." The best and worst dealings of the MLS primary transfer window - The Athletic "Didn’t do enough Tom: San Jose Earthquakes The Quakes wanted to bring in a DP No. 10 all winter. On deadline day, they had still yet to do that. Amahl Pellegrino was the key addition of the winter, a 33-year-old winger from the Norwegian league. He had an excellent goal scoring record and could be a solid signing, but the Quakes needed another attacking talisman to go with Cristian Espinoza and Pellegrino. That never came. As the deadline closed, reports swirled that the club had secured the signing of Hernán López Muñoz from Godoy Cruz, a No. 10 who would be a designated player. Though there’s still no official announcement, it looks like they got it over the line. If Muñoz turns out to be really good, this frustration will be forgotten, but, this signing should have happened months ago. Defense has been the bigger issue, though, and the team is worse than it was a year ago on that side of the ball. They’re bottom of the league with eight losses in nine matches and minimal hope."
I think in recent years he has been playing more as attacking midfielder. Skillful and feisty, but I don't remember him being fast.
Sounds like he's just reading the foreign press like we've been doing ("reports swirled") and concluding that "looks like they got it over the line". IOW he probably isn't adding to anything we already know at this point. "The Bogert knows all!"
Quakes postponed their media availability today due to a scheduling conflict. LAFC did the same when they were announcing their new signings at the beginning of the year. Is it too early to say, “Admin, drop the drum video!”?#Quakes74 #MLS #Sjquakes pic.twitter.com/Gi10Ks2sVg— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) April 24, 2024
The rumors are getting stronger today that Hernán López Muñoz is a done deal and got over the line before the deadline.Waiting on more official confirmation at this point before we schedule that emergency Aftershock for all of you. #Quakes74— JMoore Quakes (@JmooreQuakes) April 24, 2024
Jamon parroting his guy Humphrey Bogert (who's probably just reading Argentinian press), and even using the same phrase that Bogert used (I think they "got it over the line"). Don't know if we're ever going to get confirmation unless it comes from the Quakes.
I think the "Aftershock guys" have some access to the front office folks, probably pretty limited, but like DonG said, CL is stealth.
