I remember Kazuyoshi Miura when he was at Genoa back in 1994-95 for 21 games and one goal and then was shipped out. Anyway, now that the Vela deal is done are there any other players on the horizon or will we have to wait until the June/July transfer window to get someone else?
The fans are the 1 thing I do enjoy because you all are so wild. However, I find great joy watching everyone else play lol. The good news... we can probably beat Colorado, Vancouver and St Louis.
So was Vela's agent just using the Quakes interest to get a better deal out of LAFC? Said much more in here, but a small Carlos Vela update...There were reports out of Mexico that said talks have cooled between San Jose and Vela. I've heard similar. LAFC still in constant conversations with Vela and his camp. They look to have the inside track again. https://t.co/xFghq0VhLS— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) March 3, 2024
Beason is why I really wanted the Quakes to add a second CB... Does that LigaMX guy Purata who was on loan with Atlanta United have a green card given he spent 1.5 years there? Juan José Sánchez Purata Age: 26 The San Jose Earthquakes are pursuing Tigres defender Juanjo Purata. The 26-year-old Mexican center back spent 1.5 years on loan at Atlanta United, scoring 7 goals in 49 matches. Purata is not in the plans of Tigres following the expiry of his loan. "San Jose/Vela talks cooled; New SJ target" 🕵🏻♂️ Latest I'm hearing around MLS. On...🇮🇱 Charlotte club-record deal for Abada + details🇺🇸 Diego Luna future🇩🇪 Hany Mukhtar future🇪🇸 Another Barcelona player for Miami? Ehhh🔵 San Jose/Vela talks cooled; New SJ target🟠 Houston attacker searchhttps://t.co/pAHr4TbEyw— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) March 6, 2024 Jean-Paul Boëtius, a 30 year old central midfielder who is currently without a team (free agent = no transfer fee, surprise we're going the cheap route again!) and was last with Hertha Berlin where he had 0 goals 0 assists in 2022-23 as they got relegated from the Bundesliga.... Quakes you've done it again! https://theathletic.com/5321062/2024/03/06/inter-miami-sergi-roberto-charlotte-abada-mls/ San Jose cools pursuit of Carlos Vela The San Jose Earthquakes’ talks with free agent Carlos Vela have cooled, but the club continues their search to add a DP attacking midfielder, sources briefed on the talks tell The Athletic. San Jose was in advanced talks with Vela, The Athletic reported on Friday, but could not finalize a deal over the weekend. LAFC remains in talks with Vela about a return, sources say. Barring a reversal of fortunes and revival of talks, San Jose is not currently an option for Vela. Another option for San Jose, according to sources, would be Dutch free agent attacker Jean-Paul Boëtius. However, talks with the player are not at an advanced stage. Boëtius, turning 30 this month, is a versatile attacker who can play on either wing but is likely to be preferred as a No. 10 to MLS. He was most recently with Hertha Berlin but has been a free agent this season after Berlin was relegated. He excelled with Mainz in the Bundesliga and Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. With Mainz, Boëtius had 12 goals and 22 assists in 122 Bundesliga appearances. Boëtius was also on the radar of a few other MLS clubs this offseason.
That just means he's all rested up and ready to go What, do you want some guy who is all tired out from playing actual soccer games
He was a pretty good player for Mainz whenever I watched them play Dortmund but has fallen off big time. The cancer certainly didn't help. With the transfer windows closed in most other countries, it is extremely hard to sign someone as that handcuffs the selling team due to them not being able to acquire an adequate replacement. Thus, we are forced to shop at the scrap heap for the FAs.
There are also clubs that are cash-strapped, particularly those in failing economies, or those who've been recently relegated, who might be looking for a cash infusion. Otherwise, summer window again? :facepalm
Other MLS teams are facing the exact same obstacles. The Portland Timbers are reportedly after a forward from Monterey for $15 million which would be a top four transfer fee in MLS history. Money makes moves happen.
Yes, paying large sums like that is definitely one avenue to entice teams to sell. Knowing the Quakes ownership, that's a pipe dream however.
If only the Quakes had their own multi-billionaire owner they might be able to compete in a league where most of the top players get paid like mediocre middle relief pitchers...
.@MicheleG3 reports on TUDN that the Quakes have an official designated player (DP) offer on the table for Carlos Vela. LAFC isn’t offering that kind of money.📷 @darioodoes #MLS #Quakes74 #LAFC pic.twitter.com/CSkVMd5f6o— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) March 8, 2024
OK, 1) that's Favian, so..., and 2) this is probably old news? Something apparently broke down in the negotiations. I'm gonna take a guess and say it was 1 year vs. 2 years guaranteed and he might prefer to take significantly less money from LAFC if they can offer 2 years and another shot or 2 at a championship? I don't know - just guessing.
I wasn't too psyched about Carlos Vela earlier... but I'll certainly take Vela over Jean-Paul Boëtius whoever that even is
We have one (1) good player... will he stay? 🦊🔵 | According to @samuelvenancio, Cruzeiro opened negotiations with San José Earthquakes for Cristian Espinoza, but the deal didn't progress. It would be a great signing! Espinoza is the star of San José, and is one of the best in his position in the MLS.@territoriomlsen pic.twitter.com/xUHaFApWBC— Cristian Moraes (@18Cristian_MR) March 7, 2024
Not going to happen. There's likely been sustained interest in Espinoza over the past year or so if not also well before. I think someone (forgot who - Luchi?) mentioned it. Daniel as well. We just signed Espinoza to a new contract, he's our one "elite-ish" player. We're not going to transfer him out.
