I don't believe they will let MLS get that unbalanced...like every other league in the world. The selling point of the league is parity, it's a great model and massive money maker for owners. I would venture to guess if a lot of existing leagues magically had the opportunity to start over, many would use the MLS model... a parity driven league with the majority of the teams having a punchers chance to add some hardware every season...that has a lot of appeal for fanbases.

Correct, so people should be very careful. I think a salary cap is important to have, however if its increased to astronomical numbers teams like San Jose won't be able to compete. It will be very very miserable.

I'm also ok with having versions of super clubs in MLS, I understand it from a business stand point, that we need those powers to be very attractive to the general and world wide audience who may or may not tune in other wise. So having Miami and LA's doing their own thing while its annoying as a fan, from the other side its great. I do wish success for Miami and measuring success is so undefinable.

I would like us to find success and some real good shots whether we win or lose for the Cup, before the league does grow to a level where we can't financially compete with the big dogs.

I agree, and if the EPL and other leagues were formed in the modern day like the MLS they would have a very different structure. I hate the comparison and I find myself doing it sometimes but try not to, comparing the MLS and the American Fan vs Established 100+ year growth.

We American fans remember nothing past the previous game. No one cares anymore the 49ers lost the Super Bowl were onto the MLB and MLS season starting, NHL and NBA about to wrap up soon. So relevancy is only in the current mind of the beholder of the general and most common fan. With those withstanding here and the ones who really enjoy their clubs beyond we're a very small percentage.

Yeah of course that’s another reason I don’t want MLS become extreme haves and have nots. We’re not gonna be a have, let’s face it. I actually don’t mind teams like Miami and LAFC trying to be super teams because it’s not clear they can even do it with the roster rules in place. They’ll be good for sure but best team in the league? Maybe not. So what l like about MLS is that there’s more than one way to try to get it done, different teams employ different strategies to try to get a competitive advantage and it’s fun to see how it plays out.

Thats what I like about the league too, and I love having our own versions of super teams its good for the general audience, and gives people a villain to cheer against when the small clubs beat them.

I do like on any given day even Miami, can be beaten. Miami is amazing on offense, but the defensive side is where they will struggle so Inter will need to beat the shit out of the team quick out the gate with lots of goals because they will leak goals.

We were the best team in 2012 and got beat. While it sucked, at least we had a fun year. I find us to be successful that season! MLS Playoffs is a whole new season so anyone can win thats the best part.

It gets exhausting seeing the same clubs win over and over again.

The Quakes will have really blown it if they don't scour Argentina for young talent over the next few years. The country is a complete mess, even a decade ago players were looking to get out based on high crime (with players sometimes targeted) and cited that as a reason they came to MLS, but now the economy is pretty much collapsing...

    Annual inflation rate.
    Argentina: 254%

57.4% of Argentina now lives in poverty.

Prestigious UCA Social Debt Observatory says poverty is at 20-year high: 57.4%, equivalent to 27 million people, are now considered poor in Argentina. Extreme poverty affects 15%, some seven million people.

The study concludes that poverty rose from 44.7 percent in the third quarter of 2023 to 49.5 percent in December 2023 and 57.4 percent in January 2024, "as a result of increases in the cost of the basic food basket and household income."

This is one of the reasons I think we could still be getting a quality player from Argentina even if their transfer window is closed. A lot of teams may be looking for cash.

That's why I posted that excerpt from the article, when you have 250% inflation the situation on the ground is changing in all sorts of ways just from one month to another...

I had lunch with Jesse Fioranelli a few years back (pre-Covid no doubt), after he returned from a scouting trip to Argentina. Told him I loved Buenos Aires and would have seriously considered moving there if I spoke Spanish, and might still in retirement. He said, no, you wouldn't want to live there, that things were very bad and deteriorating since 2005 when I visited. .

All thanks to a socialist government. Kirchnerismo have been running the country (into the ground) for the last 20 + yrs. You've got millions of people living of the system to the point they won't go to work because the government pays them the same as any job they'd get. Unions also run big parts of all the industries and have the government by the balls. Hopefully Milei will get a chance to change all the corruption & out of control spending by the last socialist government.
Very rare have players been targeted. A couple cases happened yrs ago, nothing in the last few yrs. It's just that money doesn't go far when prices go up daily.
I've been saying for a while now about getting players from Argentina. I've even sent a few player profiles (under22) that wouldn't cost much and would make a difference.

If you retire with dollars, you'll be just fine. I was there about 6 months ago and with the dollar blue (black market, everyone uses) it was unbelievably cheap. Buenos Aires is very safe. Cops are everywhere & cameras have been installed also all over the place. The problem areas are once you get out of the capital. You see the poverty & desperation of the people. That's where things get shady but tourists where out at all hours of the night in Buenos Aires, it was all good.

Well Godoy Cruz where Hernán López Muñoz plays is apparently in the Mendoza metropolitan area, which is nowhere close to Buenos Aires (it's actually not far from Santiago Chile). Obviously not wishing economic collapse, poverty, and crime on some random city just so we get the guy we want, but worth noting...

Actually drove last yr from Santiago to Punta del esté in Uruguay. My mother in law moved from Chile to Uruguay. We sent her on plane and my wife & I drove 4 days (took our time) and crossed through Mendoza (beautiful city & safe overall). Rosario where Messi is from is were it's gotten really bad. Apparently the city is being run by some narcos and it's become by far the worst city in argentina. Milei once again is trying to clean it all up.
There's definitely great players at a bargain around the league. Specially to fill our under 22 initiative that for some reason we're not taking advantage of.

Musuh and pulisic both starting in Europe against Rennes. Quite surprised by that honestly as the series is all but decided. Milan probably should have started players that normally don’t play. 1-1 current score line, 4-1 aggregate.

Johnny futbol starting his usual spot for betis and they just tied up the aggregate 1-1, they’re hearing the match 1-0 against dinamo Zagreb, a notoriously difficult away venue
